Ashurst Perkins Coie LLP is seeking a counsel-level attorney to join our Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice group. You will lead high-stakes matters at the nexus of large-scale digital infrastructure and energy transition in a hybrid role based in the office location.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in energy law, deep knowledge of federal power markets, and a track record managing complex transactions with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in energy law.
• Proven ability to manage complex transactions and regulatory filings from inception to completion with minimal partner supervision.
• Deep knowledge of the Federal Power Act, wholesale power markets, and power transaction structures.
• Collaborative self-starter.
• JD from an accredited law school.
• Must be admitted to practice (or eligible to waive in) to the jurisdiction of office location.

Responsibilities

• Lead Data Center Power Transactions: take the first chair in drafting and negotiating bespoke power purchase agreements, energy service agreements, and interconnection arrangements for developers, utilities and corporate buyers.
• Market Design & RTO/ISOs: provide strategic advice on electric market design issues within RTOs/ISOs (PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, CAISO).
• FERC regulatory: represent clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance with market-based rate programs, QFs and EWG notifications.
• Federal energy policy: counsel clients on energy policy, renewable integration, and carbon-free procurement strategies.
• Practice development: participate in client relationships and thought leadership in digital/energy infrastructure and transition.
• Mentorship: provide guidance to associates within the PEER practice group.
