Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Senior Project Manager for ACOS to drive strategic, cross-functional initiatives supporting the AbbVie Community of Science. You will manage multi-project scope, risks, and dependencies while partnering with R&D Change Management and ACOS Program Management.

The role requires strong communication, leadership in a matrix environment, and the ability to deliver transformational projects within ACOS (e.g., ACOS Reimagined).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required with 7 years of related work experience, or Master’s degree with 6 years of related work experience.
• Experience in a complex matrix environment with strong oral and written communication.
• 2+ years of project management experience, including leadership of a cross-functional project.
• Proven leadership skills and executive presence.

• Identifies project risks and develops mitigation plans; provides options to management.

Job Description

The Senior Project Manager, ACOS plays a pivotal role in driving strategic, cross-functional initiatives that support, connects and elevates the AbbVie Community of Science. This role is central to delivering R&D cross functional efforts including transformational projects within ACOS (i.e., ACOS Reimagined), supporting R&D recognition events, and enabling our strategic priorities. Ensure coordinated project management of multiple initiatives to bring assigned project(s) to completion. This role will report to the Director of R&D Change Management and ACOS Program Management.

• Formulates project scope, timelines and deliverables independently[TS1]. Seeks final input from sponsors and management. Prioritizes work associated the project(s).
• Proactively identifies and defines projects risks and develops mitigation plans; identifies problems/ issues and provides options to management.
• Reports project status to various levels of management and technical/ project management support to others outside department.
• Routinely communicates with the project team through regular team meetings, ad hoc discussions and documented meeting minutes.
• Executes projects in compliance with processes and procedures. Offers suggestions and assists in selection process for appropriate project team members
• Documents “lessons learned” as appropriate and develops actions plan to address improvement initiatives.
• Utilizes project tools (work plan, action item log, issue log, etc.) to manage project according to plan.
• Demonstrate team leadership skills and ability to influence without direct authority. Build and maintain positive relationships.
• Identify, track and manage cross-project dependencies to prevent bottlenecks. Proactively identify and mitigate programmatic risks, system issues and conflicts.
• Translate executive vision into a structured program roadmap with clear workstreams and milestones.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required and 7 years of related work experience; or Master’s degree with 6 years of related work experience

Experience working in a complex and matric environment. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Preferred experience: 2+ years project management experience, including leadership of a cross-functional project. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge or project management principles.

Proven leadership skills and executive presence.

Note: Higher education may compensate for years of experience. Years of experience may also compensate for lower education.
