McFarland Construction is hiring a Senior Project Manager to lead operations for its Indiana market. This role oversees day-to-day execution across concurrent projects, drives PM team performance, and supports business development in the Midwest.

The ideal candidate brings extensive commercial construction experience, strong leadership, and a strategic mindset, with the ability to work autonomously and travel across Indiana sites as needed.

Qualifications

10+ years in commercial construction with multi-project oversight.
Experience managing and developing project teams.
Proven track record in business development and client relationships.

Responsibilities

Provide operational oversight across Indiana projects, ensuring schedule, budget, safety and quality standards.
Lead, mentor, and manage the Indiana project management team, ensuring alignment and strong dynamics.
Own the office's organizational structure and role clarity, aligning with executive leadership.
Identify and pursue new Midwest business development opportunities and build client/vendor relationships.
Partner with HR and leadership on recruiting and developing PM talent for long-term bench strength.
Monitor workload and morale; address retention risks and maintain a healthy working environment.
Serve as primary liaison between Indiana office and McFarland leadership with regular updates.
Oversee project financials, budgets, forecasting and profitability in partnership with accounting.
Adapt strategy and staffing plans as market conditions evolve.

Position Overview

McFarland Construction is seeking an experienced construction leader to oversee day-to-day operations for our Indiana market. This role is responsible for operational execution across multiple concurrent projects, leadership and development of the project management team, and business development that supports McFarland's continued growth in the Midwest. The ideal candidate brings a strong balance of field operations experience, people leadership, and strategic thinking, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy.

Responsibilities

Provide operational oversight across all active Indiana projects, ensuring schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards are met.
Lead, mentor, and manage the Indiana project management team, including Senior Project Managers and Project Managers, to ensure alignment, accountability, and strong team dynamics.
Own the office's organizational structure and role clarity, working with executive leadership to keep expectations and responsibilities well defined.
Identify and pursue new business development opportunities in the Midwest market; build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and community partners.
Partner with HR and executive leadership on recruiting, hiring, and developing project management talent to build long-term bench strength.
Monitor team workload and morale; proactively address retention risks and support a healthy, sustainable working environment.
Serve as the primary point of contact between the Indiana office and McFarland executive leadership, providing regular updates on project and office performance.
Oversee project financials, including budgets, forecasting, and profitability, in partnership with project accounting.
Adapt strategy and staffing plans as market conditions and project needs evolve.

Qualifications

10+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction, including multi-project operational oversight.
Prior experience managing and developing project management teams
Proven track record in business development and client relationship management.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Ability to travel across Indiana project sites as needed.
Strong financial and budgetary acumen.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills paired with initiative and a positive, can-do attitude.
