Job summary

TGW Logistics in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead multiple automation projects in grocery or food-distribution environments, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery. You will develop and manage project plans, allocate resources, monitor budgets, and keep stakeholders informed, while ensuring mechanical, PLC, and software systems meet specifications and safety standards.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Engineering and at least six years of technical systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical systems experience.
• Minimum of six years of technical systems experience, preferably in material-handling.
• Experience with system-level Mechanical, PLC Controls, and Software Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Oversees all aspects of the project lifecycle: planning, scope definition, design, execution, and delivery.
• Organizes staffing and ensures engineering integrity to meet specs for functionality, safety, and quality.
• Maintains schedules, open items, and risk registers while tracking budget and forecasted costs.
• Coordinates with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing for material requisitions and deliveries.
• Manages bid processes, POs, vendor assessments, and external consultants and vendors.
• Balances concurrent assignments and communicates progress to stakeholders.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing multiple, concurrent automation projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. This role combines material handling expertise with food industry operations knowledge to lead projects that improve efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness in grocery or food distribution environments.

In addition, you'll develop and manage project plans, designate project resources and prepare budgets, and monitor project status. The Senior Project Manager identifies and troubleshoots issues and keeps stakeholders informed throughout the implementation of the project.

What You’ll Be Handling

• Oversees all aspects of the project lifecycle: planning, scope definition, design, execution, and delivery. Organizes and oversees the staffing of the project.
• Ensures the engineering integrity of systems such that the contractual specifications are met with respect to system functionality, productivity, reliability, quality, and safety.
• Maintains and regularly updates project schedule, open items list, and risk register.
• Manages project budget and forecasting of costs. Proactively identifies potential over-runs and develops mitigation plan to minimize negative impact to project.
• Coordinates with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing for material requisitions and equipment deliveries to meet project milestones. Monitors progress against milestones, budget guidelines, and other performance indicators.
• Balances concurrent assignments as Project Manager, managing responsibilities such as developing bid packages, evaluating bids, processing POs, and monitoring vendors. Assists with the selection of vendors and manages all activities regarding external consultants and vendors.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical systems experience.
• Minimum of six (6) years of technical systems experience, preferably in material-handling industry.
• Material handling expertise with food industry operations knowledge to lead projects that improve efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness in grocery or food distribution environments.
• System-level working knowledge of Mechanical, PLC Controls, and Software Engineering
• Experience with project management software (e.g. Microsoft Project)
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively across a variety of audiences.
