Job summary

Gresham Smith is seeking a Senior Project Manager (Engineer) to lead water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects from concept through bid-ready documents. You will direct planning, design, and client interactions in a—hybrid work model—Cincinnati-based role with significant community impact.

You’ll bring 15+ years of technical leadership, a PE license, and proven ability to manage scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables, while mentoring teams and building client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure is required.
• 15+ years of experience leading projects from a technical perspective (water, wastewater, stormwater conveyance)
• Strong technical background in water/wastewater utility design (pipelines, pump stations, storage).
• Experience in developing project plans, leading client meetings, and producing technical reports and designs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of project delivery including scope, scheduling, budgeting and QA.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate project goals clearly.
• Lead planning and detailed design of water and wastewater systems and storage facilities.
• Perform design analyses, system modeling, and permitting activities.
• Serve as Project Manager, Engineer-of-Record, or Technical Advisor to ensure integrity and compliance.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure is required.
• 15+ years of experience leading projects from a technical perspective (water, wastewater and stormwater conveyance including pump stations; wastewater treatment experience a plus)

• Demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality reports and technical memoranda; preparation and sealing design plans and specifications; strong attention to detail.
• Proficient working experience with MS Office Suite, MS Project, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, Deltek Vantagepoint, and Power BI software.
• Knowledge of hydraulic models, Civil 3D/Revit, and SpecLink.
• Existing relationships with MSDGC, GCWW, SD1, DOSD, DOW, or other local municipalities are a plus.

About the Role

Our Cincinnati office is seeking a Senior Project Manager with an engineering background to work on projects related to water, wastewater, stormwater/conveyance, and treatment. Our team of project professionals will provide you with support and flexibility, allowing you to produce high-quality work while maintaining a work-life balance. Our projects are engaging, challenging, and have a significant impact on the communities we serve.

As a Senior Project Manager (Engineer), you will:

• Oversee all phases of project delivery, including pursuit strategy, client interviews, proposal support, project scoping, scheduling, team coordination, budget and change management, and quality assurance.
• Provide clear direction to multidisciplinary teams, effectively communicate project goals, and promote collaboration to achieve successful outcomes aligned with client and firm objectives.
• Independently lead and review planning and detailed design of infrastructure projects, such as water and wastewater conveyance systems, pump stations, and storage facilities, encompassing master plans, concept through final design, and bid-ready documents.
• Execute and review design analyses including basis-of-design documentation, asset condition assessments, infrastructure siting, system modeling, and permitting.
• Serve in key roles such as Project Manager, Engineer-of-Record, Technical Advisor, or Quality Control Reviewer to ensure technical integrity, schedule adherence, and compliance with industry and client standards.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of market drivers and resource management to support operational goals, improve project delivery practices, and contribute to business growth.
• Be recognized within the organization and industry as a credible leader with deep technical expertise and proven success delivering complex water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor, understanding client goals, and consistently delivering high-quality solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
