The CCC-James is committed to continuously improving the quality of care provided to patients as well as the systems supporting research, clinical care, and operations. This position serves as a key component of the Center for Cancer Innovation (CCI) and supports both the James’ innovation portfolio and its strategic industry partnership portfolio. Under the direction of Director, Operational Excellence, with a functional reporting relationship to the Director, Center for Cancer Innovation, the Senior Project Manager leads multidisciplinary teams and cross-sector collaborations that advance CCI innovation initiatives and James strategic industry partnerships across internal departments, business units, and external organizations. Responsibilities span the full lifecycle of this work, including opportunity definition, assessment, planning, experimentation or partnership development, implementation, transition, evaluation, and ongoing portfolio oversight. The Senior Project Manager coordinates people, processes, governance, resources, budgets, timelines, and stakeholder commitments so that initiatives and partnerships deliver intended outcomes on time and within budget, while monitoring progress and recommending course corrections as needed.
Projects will entail traveling to anywhere in the James and Ohio State University Medical Complex, as well as offsite locations including but not limited to sponsor headquarters and (inter)national meetings (e.g. ASCO, ESMO, AACR, ASH, and JPM) to facilitate CCI work and strategic partnerships. The primary working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but these times may shift when working on specific projects. An example of this is facilitating a meeting at 7:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.
The Senior Project Manager is an experienced professional responsible for leading a portfolio of complex CCI innovation initiatives and strategic industry research partnerships that span multiple lines of business, internal units, and external organizations. The role partners with executive sponsors, initiative leads, subject-matter experts, and industry collaborators to define opportunities, strategic objectives, value propositions, expected outcomes, and measures of success. The Senior Project Manager guides teams through ambiguity and competing priorities and manages scope, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, stakeholder commitments, and change requests throughout the initiative or partnership lifecycle. The role supports consistent processes for evaluating and prioritizing innovation opportunities and potential partnerships; coordinates pilots, limited-scale tests, due diligence, and collaborative workplans as appropriate; and synthesizes findings into clear recommendations on whether work should advance, pivot, pause, scale, transition, renew, or conclude. The Senior Project Manager helps build and continuously improve CCI and partnership-related intake, governance, and portfolio management practices; serves as a connector across the cancer program, broader university and medical center, and external industry ecosystem; and builds the trust and alignment needed among stakeholders with differing perspectives and interests.
