Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in heavy civil, transportation, or structural construction project management.
  • Strong experience managing bridge construction projects is required.
  • Railroad bridge experience is highly desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural construction projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, profitability, and resource planning.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and field teams throughout project execution.
  • Support estimating and preconstruction efforts through site visits and constructability reviews.
  • Evaluate remote project sites, access routes, material delivery logistics, and equipment requirements.
  • Monitor project performance, productivity, safety, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with estimators during bidding and planning activities to develop practical construction approaches.
  • Travel to project sites to address field challenges, support project teams, and participate in key project milestones.
  • Mentor less-experienced project managers and construction professionals while helping build organizational capability.
  • Serve as a technical leader on complex bridge replacement and infrastructure projects.

Job description

We’re partnering with a well-established heavy civil contractor to hire a Senior Project Manager to lead complex structural bridge construction projects throughout the Midwest. This is a highly visible leadership role focused on project execution, field operations, client coordination, and mentoring a growing team of project professionals.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced bridge/ railway construction leader who enjoys balancing office-based project management with extensive field involvement. Candidates must be comfortable traveling to active jobsites, evaluating constructability, solving logistical challenges, and supporting critical bridge replacement operations.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead structural construction projects from preconstruction through final completion
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, profitability, and resource planning
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and field teams throughout project execution
  • Support estimating and preconstruction efforts through site visits and constructability reviews
  • Evaluate remote project sites, access routes, material delivery logistics, and equipment requirements
  • Monitor project performance, productivity, safety, and quality standards
  • Collaborate with estimators during bidding and planning activities to develop practical construction approaches
  • Travel to project sites to address field challenges, support project teams, and participate in key project milestones

Travel Requirements:
  • Approximately 40%–50% overall travel throughout the year
  • Travel may increase to approximately 70% during peak bidding and project assessment seasons
  • Regular travel to active bridge construction sites and remote project locations
  • Combination of day trips and occasional overnight travel depending on project locations
  • Must be comfortable working in rural environments and evaluating challenging site access conditions
  • Ability to respond to field needs and be present during critical bridge replacement operations when required
What We're Looking For:
  • 10+ years of experience in heavy civil, transportation, or structural construction project management
  • Strong experience managing bridge construction projects is required
  • Railroad bridge experience is highly desirable but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex infrastructure projects from planning through completion
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, project controls, and safety requirements
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment, cranes, pile driving operations, excavation, and structural construction activities
  • Experience with estimating, budgeting, and project cost management systems preferred
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred but equivalent experience will be considered
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop younger team members
