Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager provides leadership and direction for complex construction projects and multiple project teams. This role becomes involved during early project planning, before and throughout preconstruction, helping guide project strategy, scope, schedule, procurement, and execution planning through construction and closeout.

In addition to owning the successful delivery of assigned projects, the Senior Project Manager provides oversight and support to Project Managers and their teams. This position plays an important role in developing project management staff, strengthening consistent project practices, and helping teams successfully navigate complex challenges.

The Senior Project Manager serves as a trusted partner to clients, design professionals, trade partners, and internal teams while maintaining accountability for safety, schedule, financial performance, quality, and client satisfaction.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for complex projects and multiple project teams from early planning through closeout.
  • Participate in early project strategy and preconstruction, including budgeting, scheduling, constructability, procurement, scope development, and project execution planning.
  • Provide direction and support to project team, helping them anticipate challenges, resolve significant issues, and maintain strong project performance.
  • Mentor and develop project managers, assistant project managers, and other project staff while promoting accountability, consistency, and professional growth.
  • Oversee project financial performance, schedules, contracts, risk, quality, and client satisfaction across assigned projects.
  • Support staffing and resource planning to ensure project teams are appropriately structured and positioned for success.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design professionals, trade partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide executive leadership with clear visibility into project performance, significant risks, staffing needs, and emerging issues.
  • Support client retention and future opportunities by delivering strong client experience and building long-term relationships.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary to meet the needs of Thompson Construction Inc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial construction and the complete project lifecycle, from early planning and preconstruction through closeout.
  • Strong financial and business judgment with experience managing budgets, forecasts, profitability, contracts, and project risk.
  • Ability to provide leadership and oversight across multiple projects and project teams.
  • Strong coaching and people-development skills with a demonstrated ability to develop project management professionals.
  • Ability to anticipate project challenges and guide teams toward practical solutions.
  • Strong client relationship, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic oversight with involvement in critical project details when needed.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with construction project management, accounting, scheduling, and related technology.
  • Commitment to TCI's standards for safety, quality, accountability, teamwork, and client service.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant construction and project management experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • 10+ years of commercial construction management experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading complex commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Experience providing leadership or oversight across multiple projects and project teams.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing project management personnel.
  • Strong experience with project financial management, contracts, scheduling, risk management, and client relationships.
  • Previous experience with casino, healthcare, educational or entertainment construction projects is preferred.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
  • Work is performed in both office and active construction site environments.
  • Ability to regularly travel to assigned project sites, client meetings, and other business locations as needed.
  • Periodic travel and/or temporary relocation may be required depending on project assignments.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours when necessary to meet project schedules and responsibilities.
  • Must be comfortable navigating active construction sites, including stairs, uneven surfaces, and other typical jobsite conditions.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
