Job summary

OPOC.us is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager for complex construction projects in the Indianapolis area. You will lead cross‑functional teams, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure client satisfaction from preconstruction through closeout.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of progressive construction management and field supervision experience.

Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and financial performance of complex construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role has direct responsibility for project profitability, schedule adherence, contract compliance, and client satisfaction. The Senior Project Manager provides leadership to project teams, ensures compliance with corporate policies and safety standards, and represents the company in all project‑related matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Serve as the primary initial point of contact for clients to assess project scope, delivery requirements, and resource needs necessary to successfully execute the project. Plan, organize, and staff key field and management positions.
  2. Lead preconstruction efforts, including preparation of complete project estimates and job cost analyses. Perform detailed reviews of bid proposals, specifications, drawings, take‑offs, subcontractor buyouts, contracts, and procurement strategies.
  3. Establish project‑specific objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in alignment with corporate policies, with a strong emphasis on safety management and regulatory compliance.
  4. Direct and manage the total construction effort in a proactive manner to ensure projects are completed in accordance with design intent, approved budget, schedule milestones, and quality standards. Maintain effective working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  5. Monitor and control construction progress through administrative oversight of on‑site superintendents and project management teams. Identify potential risks or deviations from plan and implement timely corrective actions to mitigate impacts to schedule, cost, or quality.
  6. Represent the company at all project‑related meetings, including owner meetings, design coordination sessions, subcontractor meetings, negotiations, and dispute resolution discussions.
  7. Manage all financial aspects of assigned contracts, including cost control, forecasting, change management, billing, and cash flow, to protect the company’s interests while maintaining strong, positive client relationships.
  8. Provide leadership, mentorship, training, and supervision to subordinate project managers, project engineers, and other project staff to support professional development and team performance.
  9. Ensure efficient allocation and utilization of labor, equipment, and materials across assigned projects to optimize productivity and profitability.
  10. Perform additional assignments and assume special responsibilities as directed by company executives.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant construction experience.
  2. Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in construction management, estimating, finance, and field supervision, with demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize team performance.
  3. Advanced knowledge of construction means and methods, construction technology, equipment, scheduling, cost estimating, safety programs, union labor jurisdictions, contract negotiations, and engineering principles.
  4. Strong ability to rapidly assess situations, recognize problems, analyze complex issues, and implement effective solutions.
  5. Excellent organizational, leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation, supervisory, and computer skills.
  6. Thorough understanding of corporate policies, industry standards, and best practices, and the ability to apply them effectively to project execution and decision‑making.
Additional Position Expectations
  1. This position carries direct profit and loss responsibility and is accountable for project schedule performance and job cost control.
  2. Responsible for contractual performance of assigned projects and for making decisions and recommendations that significantly impact project and company profitability.
  3. Exercises substantial independent judgment in managing projects, resolving issues, and directing teams.
  4. Required to strictly observe and enforce corporate policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  5. Must demonstrate the ability to train, develop, and mentor subordinate team members.
  6. Must consistently conduct business as a professional representative of the company with clients, partners, and employees.
