Job Title: Senior Project Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager who will take full ownership of large-scale utility and industrial electrical projects, driving end-to-end execution while mentoring future leaders and influencing long-term client strategy. This role focuses on delivering complex, multimillion-dollar substation, transmission, and distribution projects with a strong emphasis on Quality, Safety, and Productivity, ensuring predictable, high-performance outcomes and lasting client partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Lead full lifecycle execution of large-scale utility and industrial electrical projects, including substation, transmission, and distribution work, with a focus on Quality, Safety, and Productivity (QSP).

  • Drive schedule adherence, cost control, and risk mitigation to protect project margin while ensuring predictable, high-performance delivery.

  • Own change order strategy, including development, pricing, negotiation, and contract execution, to maximize project profitability and maintain client alignment.

  • Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, and field operations teams to ensure seamless interdisciplinary execution and timely project milestones.

  • Provide hands‑on, "boots on the ground" project oversight, actively engaging in site activities and field performance management.

  • Develop, coach, and mentor Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and field leaders to build a strong pipeline of future leadership.

  • Strengthen long‑term client relationships through consistent execution, transparency, and results‑driven performance on marquee and first‑of‑its‑kind projects.

  • Champion a field‑first culture by embedding safety into every decision and continuously optimizing productivity across all project phases.

  • Oversee project designs and ensure that all work remains within scope, budget, and schedule while meeting technical and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage large-scale, complex projects and diverse stakeholders, including high‑end clients and external partners, to maintain alignment and resolve issues proactively.

  • Lead project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and margin protection for projects in the $20M-$50M+ range.

  • Review and manage RFIs, change documentation, and project reporting to ensure accurate communication and timely decision‑making.

  • Ensure compliance with NERC standards and other relevant electrical and utility regulations throughout project execution.

  • Leverage experience from electrical subcontractor environments to drive effective field performance and contractor coordination.

Essential Skills
  • At least 10 years of project management experience in utility, industrial, or infrastructure construction, with extensive exposure to transmission and distribution (T&D) and substation projects.

  • Proven track record managing multimillion‑dollar projects, ideally up to or exceeding $500 million in value, across the full project lifecycle.

  • Strong background in utility and industrial electrical work, including substation and power generation projects.

  • Deep expertise in project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for large, complex projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in change order management, contract execution, and negotiation with clients and stakeholders.

  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams that include engineering, procurement, and field operations, ensuring cohesive project delivery.

  • Hands‑on, "boots on the ground" leadership style with active involvement in field oversight and construction management.

  • Strong electrical knowledge, including familiarity with transformers, substations, and power distribution systems.

  • Working knowledge of NERC compliance requirements and their application to utility and electrical projects.

  • Ability to manage large‑scale, complex projects and stakeholders, maintaining scope control and effective communication with high‑end clients.

  • Experience working for electrical contractors or EPC‑type environments where responsibility for execution and field performance is central.

  • Proficiency with construction management practices, including RFIs, scheduling, and coordination of subcontractors and vendors.

  • Collaborative, mentor‑oriented leadership style grounded in accountability and QSP (Quality, Safety, Productivity) principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • background with an electrical subcontractor is strongly preferred, bringing practical field execution and contractor coordination experience.

  • Experience delivering marquee or first‑of‑its‑kind projects, demonstrating comfort with innovation, complexity, and high visibility initiatives.

  • Ability to oversee and interpret complex designs, ensuring constructability and alignment with project scope and client expectations.

  • Strong stakeholder management and client‑facing communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain long‑term relationships.

  • Experience in EPC or heavy civil/transportation projects is beneficial, particularly where electrical infrastructure is a major component.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop project teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and leadership growth.

  • Comfort working in fast‑paced, high‑stakes environments with multiple concurrent priorities across different locations.

Work Environment

This role supports a highly complex, five‑story underground project in Boston, with subsequent work following across the broader Northeast region. You will spend significant time in the field, providing hands‑on oversight in challenging underground and utility environments and collaborating closely with engineering, construction, and operations teams. The work setting is dynamic and project‑driven, involving coordination with multiple stakeholders on large‑scale electrical infrastructure initiatives, and offers substantial opportunities for upward mobility within a growing utility‑focused organization.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72.11 - $108.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
