What We're Looking For

Join our Des Moines, IA office and be an integral part of growing our practice in Iowa and across the Midwest. We are looking for an experienced, highly creative, and motivated engineering project manager with Iowa DOT and/or local municipal experience and relationships to lead the design of bridge-related projects. While the primary focus will be on local and statewide projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to support other disciplines and projects through our firmwide practice.

Responsibilities

This opportunity entails managing assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle, including developing the scope and technical sections of proposals and procurement documents, participating in contract negotiations, and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB’s 4-for-4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. The role proactively manages the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications. The Senior Project Manager typically manages multi-disciplinary project team(s) for mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) or mega ($5M to <$25M) projects, or may lead or serve in a key discipline role on a super-mega (> $25M) project management team.

What You’ll Do

• Develop the project scope and fee quotation and assist in preparing technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach.
• Act as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budget to completion and client satisfaction; lead contract scoping and negotiations.
• Perform technical discipline tasks, including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
• Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach; lead development and execution of the project management plan; supervise and mentor team to overall project objectives.
• Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention and succession of project staff;
• Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development and pursuit efforts for mega and super-mega projects; lead proposal development and interview presentations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
• 4 years of successful management of engineering projects.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience delivering 4-for-4 outcomes on multi-disciplinary or large/complex projects; identify and handle risk and change management independently.
• Leadership of large teams inside and outside of HNTB using sub-consultants.
• Proficiency in system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver complex projects.
• Leading HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
• Serving as the lead interface with the client.
• Deploying talent to other projects and developing successors.

What We Prefer

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• 15+ years relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification: State of Iowa preferred or ability to obtain.
• Iowa DOT and/or local municipal client experience.
• Bluebeam Revu experience a plus.
