Overview

The Senior Civil Construction Project Manager is responsible for the overall success of each assigned project, as well as the leadership and support of a group of Project Managers. The Project Managers strive to ensure customer satisfaction for all types of projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial developments, by controlling the timelines, costs, and the quality of the construction process. As change is a constant in construction, a key part of this role is foreseeing possible challenges, monitoring and responding to pricing and material availability, and making constant decisions on costs for various changes to scope in order to maintain the client relationship and the Fiore & Sons reputation for integrity, while also ensuring project profitability targets are met and any potential losses are minimized. As a leader on the Project Management team, the Senior PM provides a challenging work environment and motivates and coaches their team to go above and beyond business objectives through high-level support, guidance, and insight.

TOTAL COMPENSATION

$119,300.00 to $226,100.00

Actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coach, supervise, mentor, support, and train staff to maximize departmental efficiencies while maintaining a professional and positive working environment and foster good attitude, high morale, and retention.
  • Negotiate and develop project scope change orders.
  • Ensure all pricing and time adjustments account for material, labor, and other asset availability; project scope and needs; relationship with client; projected profitability margins
  • Gather, submit, and track all information for submittal process
  • Contact subcontractors and suppliers to gather submittal information on all materials to be used
  • Submit to the client and engineer and/or governing authority all submittal and material information for approval
  • Track all submittals with returned comments and respond back to vendors
  • Coordinate subcontracting needs
  • Create an environment that encourages open and honest communication and transparency, leading to shared understanding of all key issues and informed decision-making.
  • Encourage team members to continually seek new and more efficient ways to operate while taking full ownership of each assignment and ensuring collaboration with all involved parties.
  • Demonstrate solid team leadership, modeling Company values and initiatives like FIORE PRIDE, Leadership Journey, SULU, and others, and setting the desired tone for the department.
  • Proactively address and resolve project and personnel issues, assessing situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Schedule and attend weekly site meetings with client, GC and project team and attend regular internal project meetings.
  • Create and maintain accountability on short and long-term project schedules.
  • Ensure constant attention to the potential to refine the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management and reevaluating resources (time, staff, and equipment) required to complete the project
  • Developing forms and records to document project activities
  • Partner with Operations teams to review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards and specification, utilizing soft leadership skills to navigate needed changes or potential problems with those in charge of the day-to-day operations of the project
  • Support Project Management Director in hiring candidates whose skills, aptitude, and attitude are appropriate for the work being performed and who operate within Company, State, and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Estimating team upon project award to allocate a Project Manager to job and maintain an open line of communication to discuss all relevant issues in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit ongoing commitment to quality by evaluating project-related processes and making necessary changes, using customer input to make improvements, and meeting/exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all involved parties, such as Owners, Architects, Fiore personnel, and subcontractors to create a supportive and communicative environment.
  • Act as escalation point for Project Managers, Operational Leaders, and Estimating team to address performance or project issues.
  • Assist Project Management Director in the development of Project Management standards and implementation of new standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy civil construction from a planning perspective, with the ability to foresee project flow from several stages prior to Fiore involvement to several stages after the Fiore & Sons scope of work is complete
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of the construction process including technology, equipment, materials, and methods
  • Superior communication, EQ, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to foster an environment of open communication and feedback, such that every employee feels comfortable speaking his or her truth without fear of judgement or repercussions
  • Ability to model, communicate, and support Fiore’s Leadership Journey, FIORE PRIDE, SULU, and Fiore Compass, among others.
  • High level organization, planning, prioritization, coordination, and the general ability to manage several moving parts, with a big picture perspective of business and thorough understanding of profit and loss.
  • Big picture understanding of business, profit and loss, crucial prioritization, and high-level decision-making and an understanding of materials markets with the ability to track and project market changes to drive purchasing decisions.
  • Excellent organizational, grammatical, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex problems at a time.
  • Top-notch problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with a good attitude and a healthy balance of confidence and humility to be able to effectively solve problems, including:
  • Profound levels of initiative and ownership with the intrinsic motivation to face all challenges and complete tasks and the ability to understand specific role in all situations.

  • Understanding of materials markets and ability to track and project market changes to drive purchasing decisions
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project

Preferred

  • 8+ years’ experience in a Heavy Civil Construction Project Management role with projects that include at least some of the following: Sitework and Finish Grading; Demolition & Environmental; Site Utilities; Overlot Grading; Trucking; and/or Recycling.
  • Experienced in the use of Vista Viewpoint and B2W software to extract and provide job cost analysis, project information and produce related reports.
Physical Demands

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time, including uneven terrain on work sites when needed. Ability to push, pull, and lift items up to 25 to 50 lbs. Ability to maneuver paperwork and read a computer screen for extended durations.

Work Environment

Project Managers must continually visit clients and assigned projects, including exposure to weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow), as well as uneven terrain. Additionally, much of the work is performing in the office, with varying temperatures and extended screen time.
