Volpi Group in Auburn, New York, seeks an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead customer development projects for optoelectronic modules used in diagnostic and life-science instruments. You will own projects end-to-end, from quotation to transfer to manufacturing, and mentor team members.

• 8+ years of project management in regulated product development (medical devices / IVD, ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls / QMSR).
• Experience leading end-to-end customer-facing programs and design transfers to manufacturing.
• Engineering or science degree with ability to translate across optics, electronics, embedded software and mechanics.

Volpi is a leading manufacturer of optoelectronic modules that form a critical part of In Vitro Diagnostics and Life Sciences instrumentation. We partner with a wide range of customers, from established instrument manufacturers to innovative start-ups entering the market.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced professional to join our team as Senior Project Manager (100%) at our Auburn, New York location.

What you can expect:

As a Senior Project Manager at Volpi, you will lead multiple customer development projects for optoelectronic modules used in diagnostic and life-science instruments.

You will own projects end-to-end, from quotation and kickoff through development, verification, and transfer to manufacturing in Auburn. You will lead cross-functional teams, manage resources and priorities, and act as the main point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders.

As the senior Project Manager on site, you will be part of the Auburn leadership team, supporting strategic planning, project performance, process improvements, and resource allocation. You will also help strengthen project management practices and mentor team members.

Beyond development, you will remain responsible for the customer relationship throughout the product lifecycle, including performance and margin monitoring.

Your responsibilities:

• Project planning and estimation: plan and estimate engineering projects together with the technical team, from quote to project baseline; own the resulting plan and the commitment on scope, schedule and cost.
• Execution and profitability: accountable for scope, schedule, cost and project margin from kickoff to delivery; manage customer change requests, protect the agreed scope and keep project data in our tools (SAP, Jira) current.
• Stakeholder reporting: primary voice on project status, forecast and risks towards customers, internal stakeholders and management.
• Risk and resources: manage project risks and mitigations; secure capacity from the functional teams, raise conflicts early and escal
• Supplier management: steer external engineering partners within the project – SOW, budget, milestones and acceptance of deliverables.
• Project management framework: apply our ISO 13485 development process and project management standards, shared by our Swiss and US sites, and help evolve them.
• Product lifecycle management: for products manufactured in Auburn, primary customer interface on changes, obsolescence and sustaining topics – with product engineering owning their execution – and monitoring of product margin over the lifecycle.

Who we are looking for:

• 8+ years of project management in regulated product development (medical devices / IVD, ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls / QMSR), with end-to-end ownership of customer-facing programs.
• OEM / contract development and manufacturing background, including design transfer to manufacturing; sustaining or lifecycle experience is a strong plus.
• Engineering or science degree and the technical literacy to challenge and translate across optics, electronics, embedded software and mechanics.
• Commercial discipline: scope and change control, margin awareness, escalation management, contractual deliverables.
• PMO and tool fluency: stage-gate / V-model, Jira and an ERP (SAP or equivalent), data-driven reporting; PMP or equivalent is a plus.
• Leadership maturity: credible with customers and senior management, leads matrix teams without formal authority, drives structure and improvement beyond own projects; experience leading people is a plus.
• International collaboration: at ease working across a Swiss-US organization and with global customers; willingness to travel to Switzerland and customer sites (est. 10%).
