a family of companies that serve customers across sports, recreation, landscape, and other specialty markets. This Senior Project Manager role will support TenCate's Midwest Region, with a primary focus on heavy civil, sitework, and related construction projects.

Position Summary

TenCate is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong heavy civil and sitework construction background to lead complex private and public projects across the Midwest Region. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for overall project performance from preconstruction and turnover through execution and closeout, with accountability for safety, schedule, budget, quality, client satisfaction, subcontractor performance, and financial results.

This role will serve as a senior project leader and key partner to Operations, Estimating, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. The Senior Project Manager will independently manage multiple or highly complex projects, proactively address risk and project challenges, and provide guidance and support to less-experienced project team members as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned heavy civil, sitework, and related construction projects from preconstruction and contract review through execution, turnover, and closeout.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, procurement plans, subcontractor commitments, change management, and overall project financial performance.
  • Review contracts, plans, specifications, estimates, scope documents, geotechnical information, and project requirements to ensure a clear understanding of deliverables, risks, and execution strategy.
  • Coordinate closely with Estimating and Operations during project turnover to validate scope, assumptions, pricing, schedule, subcontractor coverage, and project-specific risks.
  • Manage subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and internal resources to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, billings, change orders, forecasts, productivity, and financial performance; identify variances and implement corrective action as needed.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain clear, timely communication with clients, Operations, field leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, design partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project risks related to scope, schedule, site conditions, utilities, earthwork, drainage, grading, logistics, constructability, procurement, and other factors that may affect execution or profitability.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, documentation, notices, and other project controls in accordance with contract requirements and company procedures.
  • Partner with field leadership to support safe and efficient project execution, resolve field issues, and maintain alignment between project plans and actual conditions.
  • Support client relationships throughout the project lifecycle and help ensure timely resolution of issues, strong communication, and successful project delivery.
  • Provide project leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to Project Managers, Project Engineers, Project Coordinators, and other less-experienced team members as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project-management tools, procedures, reporting, forecasting, communication, and overall operational processes.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive construction project-management experience required, with significant experience managing heavy civil, sitework, or related construction projects. Experience with earthwork, grading, utilities, drainage, paving, concrete, and related civil scopes is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex construction projects, including budgets, schedules, subcontractors, procurement, change management, forecasting, billing, project controls, and closeout.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means and methods, civil plans and specifications, site-development scopes, production rates, cost drivers, constructability, scheduling, and construction risk.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong organization, accuracy, and follow-through.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to manage project budgets, forecasts, cost exposure, change orders, and overall project profitability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, Operations, Estimating, field teams, leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and other stakeholders across the Midwest Region.
  • High level of professionalism, ownership, accountability, leadership, and confidentiality.
