Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech in San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking a Staff Project Engineer and Software Integration Lead to drive major engineering workstreams across hardware, software, and systems. You will own milestone readiness and ensure cross-functional alignment throughout the development lifecycle.

You will lead the software quality assurance team, prioritize test activities, and advance automation for regression/CI testing while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with leadership on

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Technical Management, or related analytical field.
• 7–10 years of experience in project engineering, technical program coordination, or engineering operations.
• Experience running multi-disciplinary engineering activities or subsystem coordination.
• Aerospace/defense/robotics or complex hardware/software integration experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of engineering lifecycles and milestone processes (CoDR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
• Ability to read, interpret, and summarize technical documentation across disciplines.
• Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar tools.
• Strong scheduling, dependency tracking, and integration planning skills.
• Experience coordinating prototype builds, integration activities, or test readiness.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills; ability to clarify complex topics.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional coordination for major engineering workstreams or subsystems.
• Own milestone readiness: track criteria, artifacts, and on-time delivery inputs.
• Drive technical integration across EE, ME, SW, Systems, Test.
• Build and maintain schedules and integration plans for complex segments.
• Run recurring coordination meetings with clear next steps and progress.
• Collaborate with systems engineering to maintain requirements and verification progress.
• Coordinate prototype builds, integration events, and test readiness activities.
• Support ECO workflows and cross-team configuration control alignment.
• Mentor Associate and L2 Project Engineers.
• Provide early insights into progress, constraints, and cross-team needs.
• Manage the software QA team, driving automation and test coverage.
