Job summary

rand* construction is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to coordinate projects in Charlotte, NC. The SPE will lead project engineers, train teams, and proactively resolve challenges with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities include on-site coordination, scheduling, RFI/submittal management, subcontract oversight, COI tracking, and cost control. Strong communication and contract/finance knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred.
• Understanding of project management and sequencing.
• Familiarity with field trades duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to negotiate with subcontractors.
• Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, building owners, building managers, consultants, architects, and fellow employees.
• Knowledge and familiarity with contracts.
• Basic understanding of finance principles including job cost, revenue, budgets and cash flow.
• Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Procore.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage aspects of a project as directed by PM or SPM.
• Coordinate with superintendent on-site and manage trades.
• Facilitate trade coordination on-site.
• Develop basic project/breakout schedules.
• Train and manage PEs on tasks such as meeting minutes, RFI review, and workflows.
• Evaluate and manage RFI and submittal distribution.
• Identify cost and schedule impacts through tracking logs.
• Support PM in subcontract creation and administration.
• Collect COIs and maintain throughout project.
• Enforce safety and site cleanliness standards.
• Review and approve subcontractor invoices with PM oversight.
• Generate basic estimates for change orders.
• Review owner change order costs with PM.
• Build relationships with project stakeholders.
• Serve as primary contact for client, owner, architect, and project team.
