Job summary

System One is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in Baton Rouge, LA to lead capital projects from scope through commissioning. You will determine equipment specifications, perform heat transfer and hydraulic calculations, size components, and produce PFDs/P&IDs for new or modified operations.

You will partner with Controls Engineering, manage budgets, oversee field activities, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in a similar industrial setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High proficiency in building and using engineering spreadsheets; familiarity with AutoCAD or chemical process simulation software is a definite plus.
• Must currently hold a TWIC card.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and local/state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Determine requirements and select specialized equipment for sulfuric acid regeneration systems.
• Execute detailed heat transfer and hydraulic calculations for both compressible and non‑compressible fluids.
• Calculate dimensions and capacities for valves, pumps, ducting, and piping across project phases.
• Create equipment spec sheets and update PFDs and P&IDs for modified or new operations.
• Collaborate with Controls Engineering to define functional and operational statements.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of capital projects, including scope, cost estimates, and appropriation requests.
• Own project budgets through cost tracking and forecasting.
• Provide on-site management during construction and unit turnarounds.
• Manage all project documentation to ensure compliance with specs, codes, and safety policies.
