Job description

The Senior Project Engineer II manages all phases of engineering projects and developing innovative solutions—from concept through design to execution in collaboration with Architects and Engineers. This role is accountable to provide expertise to staff and can be relied upon to make recommendations for technical and design solutions. This role is also accountable to act as a point of contact for client relations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts on key projects as primary engineer responsible for the overall vision, quality and implementation of the electrical design. Partner with leadership to vision, plan and implement strategic initiatives, quality requirements and policy.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship for Project Engineers, EITs, and Designers on project assignments.
  • Independently attends client meetings and communicates with clients, consultants, contractors, and others during various stages of project development.
  • Manage and perform system design, including narratives, calculations, equipment selection, layout, drawings, and specifications in accordance with a high degree of quality, yet with regard to project schedule and budget constraints. Lead and contribute to overall engineering analysis and solutions.
  • Perform load calculations including short circuit, breaker coordination, and arc‑flash analyses.
  • Proactively perform cross‑discipline discussions and coordination.
  • Plan and conduct evaluation and site observation. Perform Quality Control for projects by reviewing project documents, specifications, and design options; ensure code compliance through meetings and reviews. Make recommendations based on findings. Apply standard engineering practices and software tools to produce high‑quality deliverables.
  • Conduct site investigations and technical research to support design decisions. Evaluate and mitigate project risk.
  • Participate in Construction Administration by reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, assist in solving construction issues, and performing site visits to assess conformance with the design concept.
  • Mentors and encourages the development of junior professionals and designers.
  • Assist with marketing and business development efforts including building relationships with key clients and strategic partners, proposal writing, fee estimates, and client interviews.
  • Travel for marketing and project‑related activities may be required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in electrical engineering on a variety of project types within the A/E industry which may include, but is not limited to, commercial, healthcare, mission‑critical, and light industrial project types.
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of relevant codes and industry design standards, with the ability to apply them to real‑world, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Self‑motivated team player with strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to deal with multiple competing priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Well‑organized with a demonstrated ability to lead project teams of varying sizes and disciplines.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Seasoned knowledge of project management fundamentals
  • Experience with developing proposals and fee estimates for electrical engineering work.
  • Experience with medium‑voltage power distribution design and specifications is a plus.
  • Experience with protective relaying and SCADA network design is a plus.
  • Experience with power analysis software such as SKM or EasyPower is a plus.

Salary range for this position varies between $115,000 – $180,000, depending upon applicable experience.
