Join the team at Interstate Engineering as an experienced Senior Project Engineer to help lead and grow our team in Williston, ND! This is an opportunity to join a collaborative group of employee‑owners who are shaping communities across Western North Dakota through meaningful infrastructure, recreation, and community development projects.

Our Williston team is actively involved in projects that directly impact the region from major county roadway reconstructions to community parks, recreation facilities, and long‑range planning efforts. The team is also delivering important transportation and infrastructure improvements across Williams County, along with long‑term engineering partnerships supporting communities like Ray, Arnegard, and Tioga.

As a leader within this multi‑disciplinary office, you will have the opportunity to guide projects from initial concept through construction, helping communities solve real infrastructure challenges while strengthening relationships throughout Western North Dakota. This role blends technical design, project leadership, and client collaboration, allowing you to remain hands‑on in engineering while mentoring team members and helping expand the firm’s presence in the region.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of municipal, county, and transportation projects
  • Guide multi‑disciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction phases
  • Apply your technical expertise while remaining actively involved in design and problem solving
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff by providing direction and sharing expertise
  • Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets
  • Build strong relationships with local governments and regional partners
  • Support business development efforts through proposals, client meetings, and identifying new opportunities

Knowledge of the Following is Preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal codes and regulatory agency requirements
  • Design and rehabilitation of water distribution systems
  • Design and rehabilitation of sewage collection systems
  • Preparation of Preliminary Engineering Reports for water and wastewater facilities
  • Experience with municipal, county, and DOT facilities
  • Understanding of municipal, county, and state governments
  • Understanding of department of transportation design and construction process
  • Interest in transportation, hydraulics, and municipal engineering
  • Subdivisions
  • Stormwater collection and stormwater detention/retention/reuse systems
  • Basic surveying
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in North Dakota or ability to obtain within one year
  • Technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with project management, proposal development, and marketing
  • The capability of supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team atmosphere is vital
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to use civil engineering software such as AutoCAD
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
