Job description

About the role

As a Senior Project Engineer you will lead varying complexity, supplier-facing projects supporting nuclear-related programs and government contracts. You will bridge engineering, supply chain, and quality to ensure suppliers meet technical requirements, regulatory standards (e.g., NQA-1), and FAR clauses through hands‑on oversight and source inspections. You will be an important technical liaison between company partners, suppliers, and customers, driving schedule, cost, quality, and compliance outcomes. You will report to the Senior Product Manager, Strategic Materials and be located at our Columbia, SC location. This is an onsite role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Own execution of supplier‑driven work scopes—define requirements, timelines, and acceptance criteria; track progress; manage risks; and lead corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget.
  • Supplier Oversight: Conduct monthly on‑site supplier visits to perform technical oversight, verify production readiness, review traveler/route cards, and ensure configuration control and documentation integrity.
  • Source Inspections: Witness periodic in‑process and final source inspections; witness critical tests; verify objective evidence; and disposition nonconformances (NCRs).
  • Compliance: Ensure supplier adherence to contract requirements and applicable DOE/NRC regs (e.g., 10 CFR 50 App B).
  • Government Contracting (FAR/DFARS): Interpret and flow‑down contract requirements and FAR clauses; ensure quality, technical, and deliverable compliance; support proposal reviews, change orders, and subcontract management.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and approve plans, procedures, inspection/test plans, acceptance criteria, and verification matrices; maintain requirements traceability and design records.
  • Issue Resolution: Support causal analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA); ensure closure with evidence.
  • Stakeholder Interface:
    • Guide communication between the customer (design authority), partners, and suppliers, ensuring communication of technical requirements, design intent, and compliance expectations.
    • Collaborate with engineering, QA, supply chain, legal/contracts, and program management; provide clear status reporting, risks, and mitigations to leadership and customers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve supplier processes, strengthen first‑pass yield, and reduce lifecycle cost while maintaining compliance and safety.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering roles (project, manufacturing, or quality) within nuclear, defense, or regulated industries.
  • Experience with supplier quality or supply chain engineering, including audits, inspections, and production oversight.
  • Experience with nuclear quality standards (e.g., ASME NQA‑1) and regulatory frameworks (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B or comparable).
  • Maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Willingness to travel monthly for supplier oversight (approximately 25‑40%).
  • Experience with project tools.
Compensation

The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.

Benefits

  • Wellness programs designed to support employees in maintaining their health and well‑being including Employee Assistance Program providing support for employees and their household members.
  • 401(k) with company match contributions.
  • Paid vacations and company holidays.
  • Opportunities for flexible work arrangements.
  • Educational reimbursement and comprehensive career programs.
  • Global recognition and service programs to celebrate employee accomplishments and service.
  • Employee referral program.
