Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Senior Welding Engineer to lead welding-related requirements for fabrication, erection, and maintenance of nuclear plants. This role reports to the Lead Engineer of Welding Technologies and operates in a hybrid setting with on-site work 2 days per week at Rock Hill, SC or Cranberry Township, PA.

Domestic and international travel may be required. Key duties include developing welding specs, reviewing supplier documentation, and supporting WELD software

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years experience as a Welding Engineer or related role.
• Strong working knowledge of AWS and ASME Codes including ASME Section II, III, IX, B31.1, AWS D1.1, D1.3, D1.4, D1.6, D9.1, D10.10.
• Experience with fabrication/erection of steel structures and piping; nuclear component fabrication preferred.
• Experience with qualification of welders and welding procedures including parameter development.

Responsibilities

• Review contract, design, and regulatory requirements to develop project welding specifications.
• Disposition of supplier-related RFIs and nonconformances.
• Review weld maps, detail drawings, PQRs and WPSs for conformance.
• Provide materials engineering support including material selection and heat treatment.
• Interface with Global Supply Chain to support fab-follow activities for AP1000 systems.

About the role:

As a Senior Welding Engineer you will support the development, implementation, and troubleshooting of welding-related requirements and activities for the fabrication, erection, and maintenance of nuclear power plants and associated facilities.

You will report to the Lead Engineer of Welding Technologies. This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at our Rock Hill, SC or Cranberry Township, PA facility. Candidates may be able to work hybrid in other Westinghouse locations in the US.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reports to the Lead Engineer – Welding for day-to-day direction
• Review contract, design, and regulatory requirements to develop project welding specifications.
• Provide disposition of supplier-related requests for information and nonconformances
• Review supplier documentation including weld maps, detail drawings, PQRs and WPSs, and Welding Programs to ensure conformance with project requirements.
• Provide materials engineering support, including material selection, substitution, heat treatment, bending, and forming requirements.
• Interface with Global Supply Chain and Supplier Performance Engineering to support fab-follow activities for AP1000 systems, structures, and components.
• Interface with other Engineering disciplines to provide input to Engineering Specifications and associated change paper documentation.
• Support the continued development of the WELD software suite
• Aid in the evaluation of weld failures and associated causal analyses.
• Travel to suppliers and vendors for support of welding program activities, assisting vendors in welding related fabrication and technical issues, welding personnel qualification assistance, WPS qualification and documentation requirements.
• Provide consultation, technical responses, and support for welding related questions and issues presented by ANI, Code, and Regulatory bodies, clients, and internal customers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or engineering related field.
• 4+ years experience as a Welding Engineer or related position
• Strong working knowledge of AWS and ASME Codes including ASME Section II, III, IX, B31.1, and AWS D1.1, D1.3, D1.4, D1.6, D9.1, D10.10.
• Experience with the fabrication and erection of steel structures and piping systems. Experience in nuclear component fabrication and modular construction preferred..
• Experience with the qualification of welders and welding procedures, including parameter development and trouble shooting.
• Familiarity with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and shear stud welding processes.
• Strong work knowledge of ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and Welding Program best practices preferred.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
• Can secure unescorted access authorization to plant site.
• Can physically perform the job responsibilities including walking, climbing stairs/ladders, see and hear within legal limits.

Beneficial:

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
