Public Works aims to maintain an attractive, safe, and clean environment for Palm Beach citizens and an efficient workplace for staff, through excellent operation, maintenance, and upgrades of infrastructure, coastal protection, engineering, and construction services.
This role involves varied professional engineering work, focusing on coastal and capital improvements, performed under general supervision. Responsibilities include managing coastal projects like shore protection, erosion control, beach nourishment, and overseeing planning, design, and construction of capital projects. It requires performing complex assignments, supervising staff, exercising judgment, and liaising with the public, contractors, consultants, architects, and regulatory agencies.
The department will undergo a transition due to upcoming retirements, and this position is part of career growth within the Town.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in coastal or civil engineering, seven years of relevant experience, and licensure as a Professional Engineer (Florida or eligible from another state). Municipal experience and coastal project management are preferred. Memberships in professional organizations are desirable. Knowledge of construction methods, coastal management principles, project management standards, and environmental regulations is required. Excellent communication skills are essential.
