Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 5 years in a continuous processing manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management and maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead capital projects including design, planning, cost tracking, and construction management.
  • Develop annual capital budget and project priority plans with leadership.
  • Define project scopes and conduct studies to define requirements.
  • Prepare detailed plans aligned with Operations, EHS, and Quality teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes and safety standards.
  • Support asset reliability initiatives and cost reduction projects.
  • Collaborate with Production and Process Engineering on testing and improvements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and respond to safety events.

Senior Project Engineer – Sylacauga, AL

Onsite | Monday–Friday, Day Shift

Imerys, a global leader in mineral‑based specialty solutions, is seeking a talented Senior Project Engineer to join our team in Sylacauga, Alabama. About the Role

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in driving capital projects that support our division’s engineering strategy. You will be responsible for end‑to‑end project management — from concept and design through cost control, construction, and successful commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead capital projects including engineering design, planning, cost/benefit analysis, cost tracking, and construction management
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and Operations Managers to develop the annual capital budget and project priority plans
  • Develop project scopes and conduct detailed studies to define requirements
  • Prepare detailed project and construction plans in full alignment with Operations, EHS, and Quality teams
  • Ensure all designs and installations comply with applicable building codes, regulations, and internal company standards for safety, maintenance, and production
  • Support Operations with asset reliability initiatives and cost reduction projects
  • Work closely with Production and Process Engineering teams on process performance testing, equipment improvements, and method modifications
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and respond to safety and environmental emergencies while ensuring compliance
  • Develop equipment standards and procurement practices to maximize reliability, uptime, product quality, and on‑time delivery
What You Bring
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (preferred)
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in a continuous processing manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Strong project management, maintenance, and process equipment experience
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Word, and SAP
  • Basic AutoCAD skills
  • Ability to perform complex engineering calculations
  • Experience managing contracts with outside vendors
  • Working knowledge of Environmental Regulations
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities

This position is onsite in Sylacauga, AL and is not eligible for visa sponsorship. This role is not open to agencies.
