Imerys is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to lead the site safety program at our Sylacauga, AL facility. You will ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen safety performance, and drive continuous improvement across operations.

You will oversee industrial hygiene, safety program coordination, and training, while partnering with operations and maintenance to reduce risk and reinforce safe work practices. 5+ years in safety roles with CSP/CIH/CHMM preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline (EHS) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in safety and health roles in mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • HS certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Health and Safety programs for the site and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee Industrial Hygiene and Safety program coordination and maintenance.
  • Identify hazards with operations and drive risk reduction and safe work practices.
  • Prepare and submit safety/environmental reports and permits as required by MSHA/OSHA and state/local regulations.
  • Coordinate training mandated by regulatory bodies and provide ongoing HS training.
  • Lead site audits and corrective action tracking and support post-incident reviews.
  • Manage contractor safety onboarding and field oversight; engage site leadership and regulators.

Job description

Under the general direction of the EHS Director-USA & Canada, and in alignment with site leadership, the Health and Safety Manager leads Health and Safety programs for the Lompoc operation. This role is responsible for regulatory compliance, risk reduction and continuous improvement in site safety performance. The position is based in Sylacauga, Alabama.

Location: On-Site at our Imerys Facility in Sylacauga, AL
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Become a subject matter expert of Imerys’ protocols concerning environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety programs and procedures, and support site interpretation and implementation.
  • Oversee the coordination and maintenance of site Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs.
  • Maintain a strong field presence and work closely with operations, maintenance, and employees to identify hazards, improve work practices and reinforce site safety expectations.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Oversees, prepares, maintains and submits all safety and environmental reports and permits in a timely manner in accordance with Federal, State, and Local H&S regulations.
  • Oversees and coordinates all training mandated by MSHA, OSHA, state or local regulatory agencies and provides continuous training for Site Coordinators, Plant Managers, Maintenance Managers and others.
  • Support the development, planning, delivery and review of HS training.
  • Lead and participate in site audits and inspections and support tracking and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Facilitate post incident reviews and employee discussions to identify improvement opportunities and strengthen safe work practices.
  • Support contractor safety management processes, including onboarding, compliance verification, and field oversight.
  • Work closely with peers, Regional and Site Management to develop, implement, measure, and monitor the success of HS in their respective region.
  • Manages & maintains the relationship with all applicable regulatory bodies (e.g. county, state, federal)
  • Maintains and ensures current working knowledge of Federal, State and local safety, environmental and occupational health regulations (e.g., MSHA, OSHA).
  • Manages workers compensation process, reports, etc.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree,appropriate technical discipline (such as Environmental, Health, Safety, or related area) preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in Safety and Health roles in a mining, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Professional Licenses: HS certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are preferred.
  • Preferred: Previous experience working at a Part 48 MSHA Site.

Required Activities

1. 60% in an industrial minerals processing plant or a mine environment

2. 40% in an office type environment

Physical activities may involve climbing stairs or ladders, hiking, working near chemicals, Heavy Mining Equipment, water bodies, confined spaces, and hot equipment.

Travel: Up to 10% travel to other IMERYS locations and professional meetings.
