- Organize project teams, assign responsibilities, develop project schedules, and determine resource requirements
- Monitor and report project cost, timing, staffing, and quality-standard adherence
- Manage complex engineering projects involving personnel, safety, quality, scope, schedule, and budget
- Manage projects through all lifecycle stages from initiation through closeout
- Own large-sized projects and/or programs and manage multiple projects, programs, and modifications concurrently
- Manage in-house and external resources involved in project implementation and procurement
- Incorporate licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code compliance, construction, and stakeholder requirements into projects
- Develop and manage design documents, specifications, presentations, Trustee Items, funding requests, budgets, forecasts, and bid documents
- Evaluate bid proposals and make award recommendations
- Coordinate contract change orders, invoices, construction sequencing, site outages, field and design changes, and quality testing/inspections
- Review project documentation including drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports, asset and risk registries, budgets, forecasts, invoices, schedules, and variances
- Perform occasional emergency response outside normal business hours
- Support and mentor lower-level Project Engineers
- Supervise maintenance staff and contractors; prepare and monitor day-to-day craft activities
- Coordinate work scheduling, oversee employee safety, and review job packages, completed work, and work orders
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 8 years total experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred in Project / Construction Management, preferably in utility, commercial or related mechanical/electrical industries
- New York State P.E. License required for the Engineering department, or a P.E. License from another state with expectation of receiving New York State endorsement within 12 months of start date
- For Project Management, one or more of the following preferred: New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 2 years; Project or Program Management Professional certification or ability to obtain within 2 years; Design Build Institute of America certification or ability to obtain within 2 years; Certified Construction Manager (CCM); Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
- Expertise in project management of electrical, mechanical, structural and/or water projects specific to electric utility, canal/waterways, building systems, distributed energy resource and/or electric vehicle industries
- Proven success managing technical and commercial aspects of complex projects and programs
- Ability to develop project plans, timelines, and work schedules and coordinate among customers, contractors, permitting agencies, and others
- Expertise with applicable codes, standards, regulations, project budgets, costs, project management software, and NYPA external stakeholders
- Ability to perform complex engineering calculations and establish standard specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses
- Availability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, when project demands
- Ability to travel to vendor facilities worldwide as needed
