Job summary

W.E. O'Neil Construction is seeking a Project Director in Phoenix, AZ to lead multiple projects, oversee client relationships, and drive business performance across an active portfolio. This senior role is field-based, operating from the jobsite trailer and coordinating with clients, consultants, and project teams.

The position reports to the Project Executive or VP of Operations and emphasizes mentorship, pursuit leadership, and strategic decision-making in a hands-on construction environment.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressively responsible construction industry experience leading large or complex projects and client relationships.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Expert understanding of project delivery methods, construction operations, risk management, scheduling, procurement, contract administration, and project controls.
• Advanced knowledge of construction means and methods, constructability principles, building systems, and VDC/BIM processes.
• Strong business acumen, financial decision-making, and ability to oversee multiple projects and priorities.
• Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills with clients, project teams, and leadership.
• Experience mentoring project management staff and supporting operational leadership initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight across multiple projects to drive safety, quality, schedule, financial, and client satisfaction outcomes.
• Support project teams in resolving complex project, operational, contractual, staffing, and risk-related challenges.
• Monitor project performance and guide teams to improve outcomes, profitability, and client satisfaction.
• Develop and maintain strategic client, consultant, and industry relationships; serve as a senior company representative on key accounts.
• Mentor and develop Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and other team members; support recruiting and succession planning.
• Lead major project pursuits and preconstruction activities, including execution planning, staffing strategy, and risk assessment.
• Evaluate decisions through profitability, risk, and long-term objectives; represent the company in industry associations.
