The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking a Senior Project Coordinator for Safety Projects, focusing on enhancing street safety for all users. **To be considered for this position, candidates must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner, be reachable on the civil service list, or be eligible under the 55a program.**
The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting economic and social vitality in New York City. The division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility, markings, and ensuring safety for motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Research, Implementation, and Safety Unit (RIS) is dedicated to making NYC streets safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, using data-driven approaches to design safety projects, administer safety programs, and lead agency action plans.
RIS's Safety Projects and Programs team seeks candidates for the Senior Project Coordinator: Safety Projects/Daylighting position. Responsibilities include planning, developing, designing, and implementing street improvement projects to enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and motorists, with a focus on safety treatments like "hardened daylighting" at intersections. Key tasks involve research, crash analysis, project design and implementation, traffic data analysis, report and map creation, field evaluations, and community outreach, including meetings with officials and stakeholders, and presentations.
The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, accurate, a team player, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of managing complex projects independently.
The preferred candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of traffic calming, urban design, pedestrian-oriented design, complete streets, and traffic engineering is required. Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and community outreach skills are essential. A valid NYS Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment.
