Job summary

City of Albuquerque is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to lead renovation and new development capital projects, overseeing architecture, construction management, budget planning, scheduling, and staff supervision.

You will coordinate with divisions, agencies and consultants, review plans, and represent the city at meetings and with council.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, architectural design, or landscape architecture.
  • Five years of experience in managerial construction, professional architectural, landscape architectural, or capital project management.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assume management and supervisory responsibility for professional and technical services and activities across multiple capital projects.
  • Plan, direct and evaluate work of staff and consultants on renovation and new development projects.
  • Recommend design consultants, negotiate contracts, and review design and construction documents and pay requests.
  • Represent the City at public meetings and to City Council and other agencies for assigned projects.
  • Develop project status reports and construction schedules; estimate costs and budgets.
  • Review development and construction plans, designs and specifications.

Position Summary

Perform a wide variety of professional project management duties for renovation and new development projects including professional and technical architectural or landscape architectural services and activities, construction management, capital project fiscal planning, project planning, design, plan check, inspection, project budgets and scheduling; supervise the work of staff and consultants responsible for performing a wide variety of multiple technical and professional projects in support of assigned projects; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies.

Essential And Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Assume management and supervisory responsibility for professional and technical architectural or landscape architectural services and activities, construction management, capital project fiscal planning, project planning, design, plan check, inspection, project budgets and scheduling for multiple capital projects.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, assign, review and evaluate the work activities, products, methods and procedures of staff and consultants responsible for performing a wide variety of multiple professional and technical renovation and new development of capital projects.
  • Recommend design consultants, negotiate contract agreements, review and approve design and construction documents and pay requests for consultants and contractors.
  • Represent the Division/Department/City at public meetings and City Council before boards and commissions and to other divisions, departments and agencies for assigned projects.
  • Participate in identifying and resolving conflict and project related problems with solutions that result in resource savings (time, money, staff).
  • Serve as a liaison for the Division/Department/City with other City departments, divisions, the public and outside agencies; coordinate, negotiate, resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
  • Develop project status reports and construction schedules; estimate project construction costs and develop budget sheets.
  • Respond and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints related to assigned projects.
  • Serve as project manager for assigned capital projects.
  • Participate in inspection services for assigned capital (CIP) projects.
  • Review and make recommendations on development plans, construction plans or architectural designs and specifications.
Supplemental Functions
  • May act in the absence of the Division Manager.
  • Attend and participate in professional training, group meetings, seminars and activities; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of Landscape or related field.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, architectural design, or landscape architecture; and

Five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following areas:

  • managerial construction
  • professional architectural
  • landscape architectural
  • capital project management

To include two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
  • Possession of Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licensure preferred.
Working Conditions
Environmental

Office, field and construction environment; exposure to computer screens; occasional exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions and work around heavy construction equipment.

Physical

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
