Job summary

Merrick & Company is seeking a Senior Project Controls Engineer to lead scheduling and cost control for the Energy Manufacturing and Bioprocessing (EMB) BU. The role supports a diverse set of projects from our offices in Baltimore, MD; Richmond, VA; Newport News, VA; Tulsa, OK; Huntsville, AL or Greenwood Village (Denver Metro), CO.

Responsibilities include developing WBS, control accounts, risk registers, and EVMS, while supervising other PC engineers and delivering BU-level reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 12+ years in project controls scheduling/cost engineering.
  • Knowledge of EVMS/EVM requirements.
  • Experience in Engineering/Procurement/Construction Management.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel and Access.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo Analysis.
  • Strong problem solving, analysis and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain WBS and dictionary, charge codes, risk register, change control and forecasts.
  • Supervise other Project Controls Engineers in the EMB BU.
  • Prepare BU-level reports for senior management.
  • Maintain PC templates and develop Level 3 resource-loaded schedules.
  • Coordinate with client and internal teams to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Analyze critical path and schedule delays and client-driven changes.
  • Input schedule updates and ensure IMS reflects progress.
  • Manage weekly/monthly progress reports with earned value.
  • Input cost data to track budgets, commitments and expenditures.
  • Ensure processes align with client specs and best practices.
  • Travel to project sites as required.
  • Support project accounting with invoice accuracy and submittals.

OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company's growing Project Controls team is looking for a Senior Project Controls Engineer, proficient in both schedule and cost, to support the Energy Manufacturing and Bioprocessing (EMB) Business Unit. The position can be executed from our Baltimore, MD, Richmond, VA, Newport News, VA, Tulsa, OK, Huntsville, AL or Greenwood Village (Denver Metro), CO offices.

Annual pay range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and maintaining contractual Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Dictionary, charge codes utilizing the Control Accounts & Work Packages, Risk Register, Change Request Process, Contract budget base log, Earned Value Management System (EVMS), and revenue forecasts (both ETC & EACs).

  • Supervise other Project Controls Engineer(s) in the EMB Business Unit.
  • Prepare Business Unit level reports for senior management.
  • Maintain template files utilized by the PC group.
  • Develop integrated Level 3 resource loaded schedules and monitor performance against baselines.
  • Coordinate work assignments and tasks with our client and internal team to meet client requests and regular reporting submittals.
  • Analyze critical path and constraints to determine the effects of schedule delays and client driven
  • Provide schedule version control.
  • Ensure that physical progress is being measured and reported in WBS detail, and that the integrated schedule is updated based on the progress.
  • Collaborate with our teams to obtain and input schedule updates, based on the project needs.
  • Review, Incorporate, and maintain IMS with external activities (Client & Subcontractor(s))
  • Be responsible for schedule update meetings and preparing look ahead schedules for the team.
  • Use system data to prepare weekly/monthly progress reports including earned value.
  • Utilize the cost data to allow for the tracking and control of budgets, commitments, expenditures and contingency for the duration of the project.
  • Ensure all schedule or cost related processes are in accordance with Client specifications and industry best practice.
  • Willing to travel to project site, as requested by the client; frequency to be determined.
  • Interact directly with the client and/or other contractors, while simultaneously supporting multiple project management.
  • Assist project accounting with invoice support, accuracy, timely submittals and payments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the field of Project Controls (Planning & Scheduling/Cost Engineering).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of cost and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) or Earned Value Management (EVM) requirements.
  • Experience in the Engineering/Procurement/Construction Management field.
  • Computer proficiency in basic project control software applications, including Primavera (P6), Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo Analysis.
  • Strong problem solving, analysis and interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any of the following certifications awarded by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEi) are helpful: Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), Earned Value Professional (EVP), Certified Cost Professional (CCP).
  • Experience with earned value on a government contract.
