Overview
The Project Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and reporting on the accounting, budgeting, and financial compliance for all assigned projects. This includes managing accounting processes and records as well as the timely and accurate production of financial reporting to closely monitor and report on the project’s overall financial health. This position is based in Austin, Texas, and is a hybrid role.
Responsibilities
- Manage all project financials, including:
- Financial reporting
- Forecasting (collaborate with planner/scheduler)
- Budgeting
- M/Y close
- Variance analysis, including monthly actuals vs forecast review
- Monitor, update, and escalate issues with EAC
- Compile and submit invoices according to SOP
- Oversee accounts receivable and escalate issues
- Perform ad hoc analyses on unplanned costs, margins, or revenue variances
- Collaborate across functional areas to gather information and establish ROMs, task orders, and project pricing.
- Track and control project costs by aligning expenditures with BOM/bid.
- Update financial dashboards regularly and maintain current information for stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Establish and maintain task code structures, relationships, and assignments for new and ongoing programs.
- Develop financial modeling tools to support business objectives.
- Advise project managers on the financial impact of business decisions.
- Review contract details periodically to ensure compliance and avoid breaches.
- Understand project revenue recognition rules, including percent complete, T&M, and fixed revenue recognition.
- Work closely with stakeholders, including program customers, ETC leadership, and program management teams, as a business partner.
- Implement internal controls, audits, and checks to ensure accurate transaction recording.
- Ensure timely payment of accounts payable and proper debt servicing.
- Conduct financial analysis focusing on pricing, contract adherence, and negotiations.
- Forecast project cash flow and identify liquidity issues proactively.

Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, project planning, or as a project controller.
- Experience in a Project Controller role, preferably in software solutions or professional services.
- Tolling industry experience is a plus but not required.
- CPA or CMA designation is preferred.
