Job summary

GFT in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Project Bridge Engineer to lead the design of bridge projects and coordinate with disciplines across the roadway program. You will meet clients, provide day-to-day leadership, and ensure technical excellence on design, rehabilitation, load ratings and construction documents.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in bridge design and construction, an ABET-accredited Civil/Structural degree, MA PE licensure, and hands-on experience with major software tools.

GFT is seeking a Senior Project Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Boston, MA. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Boston office. What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

GFT has an opening for a Senior Project Bridge Engineer with greater than 10 years of experience in bridge design and construction services. We are seeking an individual who can carry out and lead the design of our bridge projects, coordinate with other disciplines, meet with clients to develop current and future projects, and provide day-to-day leadership and apply technical expertise. There will be opportunities to engage in structural design, rehabilitation, analysis and load rating of bridges, preparation and review of construction documents, specifications, and estimates. Assignments and technical guidance and overall direction will be provided by Project Managers.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Designing and analyzing structural components of bridges and related structures.
  • Reviewing project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Developing details of bridge components for contract drawings.
  • Calculating quantities and developing construction cost estimates.
  • Providing construction services support. Reviewing shop drawings. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phase of projects.
  • Performing load rating analyses and preparation of load rating reports.
  • Performing bridge and tunnel inspections and preparation of inspection reports.
  • Accuracy of engineering design, reports, load ratings, and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Informing Project Managers of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Providing technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Showing understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
  • Assisting or participating in the preparation of business proposals.
Education | Experience:
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in MA.
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge design and construction services.
  • Experience in new bridge design including design build, bridge rehabilitation, administration of construction services load ratings and/or inspection of bridges.
  • Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas 3D Civil, STAAD Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, LUSAS and/or other structural analysis software and applications such as MathCAD.
  • Strong knowledge and ability of reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Team oriented engineer and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple projects demands and transitioning priorities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • No relocation assistance - local candidates preferred.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $175,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
