Job summary

Otak, Inc. in Portland, OR (and Denver, CO) seeks a creative Project Architect to lead design and delivery of multifamily, mixed-use, and commercial projects across all design phases. You will coordinate across disciplines, guide BIM workflows, and ensure technical rigor and value.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Architecture, 8+ years of experience, and professional registration. Proficiency in Revit, BIM workflows, and coordination with consultants is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture required.
  • Minimum 8 years of architectural experience; public-sector, multifamily housing, mixed-use, or renovation experience preferred.
  • Professional Architectural Registration required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, technical development, and delivery of a wide range of project types, including multifamily housing, mixed-use developments, commercial buildings, and community-focused facilities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop thoughtful, high-performing design solutions that balance client goals, budget, schedule, constructability, and long-term value.
  • Support the development of project work plans, staffing strategies, and team assignments in collaboration with Project Managers and Studio Leadership.
  • Lead the development, coordination, and quality control of BIM models, construction documents, specifications, and technical details; coordinate architectural systems with consultants; manage jurisdictional review, permitting, and agency coordination.
  • Apply strong building code knowledge to resolve complex design and construction challenges.
  • Develop architectural details with focus on envelope performance, constructability, durability, and sustainability.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure document quality and compliance.
  • Communicate project status and design intent clearly to clients, consultants, contractors, and reviewers.
  • Conduct site observations and assist construction administration with submittals and RFIs.
  • Mentor and support architects and staff to foster growth and innovation.
  • Participate in client presentations, interviews, and business development.
