Job summary

DeForest Architects in California is seeking a Project Architect with a minimum of 6 years of experience to work on challenging custom residential projects from our Lake Tahoe studio. Strong design and project management skills, plus experience with complex land use issues and permitting, are essential.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and team members, and requires proficiency in ArchiCAD and wood-frame detailing. Local relocation and eligibility to work in the U.S. are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of overall experience in the field, with at least 2 years on custom residential projects.
• Experience managing all phases of design and construction administration.
• Knowledge of wood-frame construction and detailing.
• Experience with complex land use issues, critical areas, and permitting.
• Licensure in Washington or California preferred, but not required.
• Self-sufficient, a great team player, and responsible with time management.
• A good sense of humor is a prerequisite.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to multiple project teams as needed.
• Provide support for project teams and principals.
• Manage projects, including client and team communication.
• Contribute to design under the supervision of project leads and principals.
• Produce design documents.
• Produce construction documents, including details and specifications.
• Coordinate consultants.
• Conduct code research and compliance, and handle complex land use issues, critical areas, and permitting.
