Job description

Our Senior Project Architect is responsible for leading the technical execution of workplace interiors projects while serving as a trusted advisor to clients, project teams, consultants, and internal leadership. This position requires a balance of design sensitivity, technical expertise, business acumen, and team leadership.

The successful candidate will help grow IA’s presence in the Miami market by supporting client relationships, contributing to business development initiatives, and delivering high-quality workplace environments that reflect IA’s commitment to design excellence, innovation, and execution.

Key Responsibilities
Client and Project Leadership
  • Serve as a primary technical and project leader for workplace interiors projects, guiding teams from programming and planning through construction administration.
  • Lead client communications related to project scope, schedule, technical coordination, design intent, documentation, and project delivery.
  • Collaborate with design leadership to ensure project solutions align with client goals, workplace strategy, brand identity, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal team members to resolve technical issues and maintain project momentum.
  • Oversee project documentation, construction detailing, code coordination, permitting, consultant coordination, and construction administration.
  • Anticipate project risks and provide proactive solutions to support successful project delivery.
Staff Mentorship and Team Development
  • Mentor project architects, designers, technical staff, and junior team members in workplace interiors documentation, detailing, code compliance, consultant coordination, and project delivery.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and technical direction to project teams throughout all phases of work.
  • Support staff growth by sharing best practices, reviewing work product, and helping team members develop stronger technical and leadership skills.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing studio culture.
  • Assist studio leadership in identifying staffing needs, project assignments, and professional development opportunities.
QA/QC and Technical Excellence
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control reviews for workplace interiors drawing sets, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure project documents are coordinated, complete, code-compliant, constructible, and aligned with IA standards.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, detailing, consultant coordination, life safety, accessibility, constructability, and consistency with design intent.
  • Establish and maintain documentation standards across assigned projects.
  • Support permitting and agency review processes by addressing comments and coordinating required revisions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA/QC processes, drawing standards, and technical resources within the Miami Studio.
Business Development
  • Support the Miami Studio’s business development efforts by participating in client meetings, interviews, presentations, and networking opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, brokers, and industry partners.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, project approaches, schedules, and fee development in collaboration with studio leadership.
  • Help identify new project opportunities and support strategies for expanding IA’s workplace interiors portfolio in the South Florida market.
  • Represent IA professionally in the marketplace and contribute to the studio’s visibility and reputation.
Education & Work Experience
  • Graduate of architecture or interior design school: equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 10‑15+ years’ experience producing design projects including 5+ years managing projects.
  • Registration required: Must be a Licensed Architect or Interior Designer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Revit required; experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management tools preferred.
  • Strong experience in workplace interiors, corporate interiors, tenant improvements, and commercial interior architecture.
  • Proven experience leading projects through all phases, including programming, design development, construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
  • Strong technical knowledge of interior architecture, detailing, building systems coordination, codes, accessibility standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience supporting business development, client relationships, proposals, and project interviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and lead multidisciplinary project teams.
