Job description

Help reinvent how housing gets designed, permitted, and built in America.

Cedar is building the operating system for urban housing delivery. We combine architectural expertise with software, AI-driven automation, and data systems to dramatically accelerate how projects move from land acquisition to approved designs and construction. The result: faster timelines, higher quality, lower risk, and more housing in the cities that need it most.

Our team blends architects, engineers, and product builders. We design real buildings - and we build the software and AI systems that make great architecture scalable.

The Role

As a Senior Project Architect at Cedar, you are a leader on the Project Team. While being responsible for the execution of 1-3 projects at a time, you will steward our clients through an impeccable process. From Concept Phase through Construction Administration, you will gather project goals and preferences from our clients, and meld these with our catalog designs, to generate best in class projects. This role will be responsible for managing and coordinating with Cedar project designers, technical experts, and external project consultants, while keeping the project’s wheels on the bus throughout the process.

As a team leader, you will also guide and mentor more junior staff. This entails helping with routine training on codes and Cedar best practices, as well as modeling for them how an architect solves complicated problems. Sitting down and sketching out solutions and bringing different experts to the table to make educated and thoughtful decisions, that lead to great outcomes for our clients, is where you excel.

The Senior Project Architect will also have opportunities to craft Cedar processes and assist with overall project management. The Cedar leadership team wants you to contribute to the success of all Cedar projects. This role reports to the Studio Director.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of one to three residential projects concurrently
  • Gather project data from key stakeholders and manage this data throughout the life of a project
  • Produce and oversee project models, presentations, and documentation through key milestones. As Cedar is building its own product catalog software, this process will evolve over the first 18 months of your employment.
  • Lead some projects with 1-2 more junior staff under your direct supervision
  • Curate specifications, product selections, and draw/manage the execution of all details
  • Plan and maintain project schedules and staffing
  • Serve as primary client contact and coordinator for schedules, milestones, and delivery
Who You Are
  • Established in architectural judgment, grounded in strong technical fundamentals. You understand how buildings are put together and know how to create a complete set of documents that are buildable and highly effective.
  • Confident in managing multiple projects, balancing deliverables, and shifting priorities
  • Curious about improving workflows, tools, and systems that streamline design and preconstruction processes. You have no problem building the airplane while flying it.
  • A collaborative leader who works effectively across design, engineering, and client teams
  • Motivated to deliver real housing outcomes in growing urban environments
  • Trusted by your peers and your clients, based on years of experience and successful outcomes
  • A pro-active, self-starter who works autonomously, carefully and collaboratively
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an architectural office. Licensed professionals are preferred.
  • 6+ years in a project architect or job captain role, running the day-to-day of architectural projects
  • 4+ years in the residential architecture sector is required. Multi-family experience preferred.
  • Education: 5-year BArch or MArch degree (preferred)
  • Proficiency in design and documentation software (Revit, Autocad, Rhino, Enscape, Bluebeam)
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity ownership
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision
  • Early-stage ownership and impact
  • Coverage of architecture license fee (TX) and annual professional development stipend
