Job description

Help reinvent how housing gets designed, permitted, and built in America.

Cedar is building the operating system for urban housing delivery. We combine architectural expertise with software, automation, and data systems to dramatically accelerate how projects move from land acquisition to approved designs and construction. The result: faster timelines, higher quality, lower risk, and more housing in the cities that need it most.

Our team blends architects, engineers, and product builders. We design real buildings — and we build the software systems that make great architecture scalable.

The Role

The Studio Lead – Multi-Family is responsible for leading the delivery of Cedar’s multi-family and condominium architecture projects. This role owns project outcomes, client relationships, and team performance within the multi-family studio, overseeing complex residential projects from early feasibility through construction administration.

This role will work closely with the Studio Director, the Director of Design, and Director of Construction to deliver technically complex projects with clarity, quality, and predictability. This role is ideal for a senior architect with deep multi‑family experience and a strong leadership mindset.

This role reports to the Studio Director.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the successful execution of Cedar’s multi‑family residential projects from concept design through construction administration
  • Lead and mentor Project Architects and designers within the multi‑family studio
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for multi‑family developers and contractors
  • Oversee code analysis, and permitting strategy, and consultant coordination
  • Drive standardization, repeatability, and efficiency in multi‑family design and documentation
  • Consider scalability and integration of technology‑enabled workflow
  • Ensure projects meet schedule, documentation quality, and delivery milestones
  • Collaborate with Operations to align staffing, forecasting, and performance
  • Partner with Design and Construction to maintain design quality and technical rigor
  • Identify opportunities and collaborate on solutions with Software engineers to ensure efficiency in integration of technology to improve project process and documentation
Who You Are
  • A strong project and people leader who takes ownership of outcomes
  • Comfortable balancing speed, quality, and repeatability
  • Clear, decisive, and accountable in your decision‑making
  • Collaborative across disciplines while respecting role boundaries
  • Motivated by building systems and teams, not just individual projects
  • Energized by idea of contributing to a growing, technology‑enabled, mission‑driven architecture practice
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in architecture
  • 6+ years leading large multi‑family or mixed‑use residential projects
  • Experience managing project teams and client relationships

  • Proficiency in design and documentation software (Revit, Autocad, Bluebeam) and multi‑family scale documentation workflows
  • Education: 5‑year BArch or MArch degree (preferred)
  • Architectural licensure preferred
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity ownership
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision
