Job summary

New River Electrical Corporation is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support the construction finance function and the monthly WIP process. You will manage monthly WIP schedules, billings, and revenue recognition, collaborating with project teams to understand changes and budgets.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least three years of field experience in a complex construction environment. Strong GAAP knowledge, Excel, and reporting skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required with a minimum of three (3) years of field experience or advanced hands-on construction field experience in a highly complex environment preferably with exposure to project/finance controls.
  • Experience in construction or utility industry is a plus.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including internal staff and external professionals.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Understanding of budgeting, project forecasting, cost control, schedule, anticipated cost, and project profitability.
  • Familiarity with construction industry insurance products.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting related functions for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures and ensure adherence to GAAP and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assist project teams with complex accounting-related questions or needs, providing guidance and support.
  • Prepare and update monthly WIP reports, analyzing costs incurred, estimated costs to complete, and total contract values.
  • Provide monthly journal entries to Controller to accurately recognize revenue.
  • Work with project teams to understand change orders and budget revisions.
  • Reconcile WIP schedules against the general ledger (GL) to ensure financial reporting accuracy.
  • Generate analytical reports to assist management in assessing project profitability, budget variances, and overall financial health.
  • Prepare documentation and assist in interim and year end external audits ensuring thorough and accurate records.
  • Drive team adherence to month end and quarterly deadlines, consistently adopting innovative ideas to push a more efficient and accurate closing process.
  • Develop and enhance project accounting processes, identifying and implementing improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships both internally and externally
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate cost reporting and revenue recognition.

Position Description

New River Electrical is looking for a qualified Senior Project Accountant with a desire to work in the construction industry. As the Senior Project Accountant, you will support the finance function and the monthly work in progress (WIP) process. This role is responsible for monthly WIP schedule and reconciliation, managing over/under billings, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Accounting.


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with construction and pricing components

  • Familiarity with construction industry insurance products.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

  • Working knowledge with programs such as Smartsheet, Vista, PowerBI, Primavera P6, and Adobe, preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize day to day activities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within fixed timeframes.

  • High levels of discretion and judgment in both interpersonal and business matters.


Travel

There may be occasional travel for off‑site meetings, events, or other business matters. Occasional travel to other company sites, as needed.
