Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a disciplined accounting professional to manage records for active development and construction projects in Kansas City, MO. You will record project costs, prepare schedules, and ensure capitalization in line with U.S. GAAP.

This hybrid role combines in-person collaboration with remote work several days per week. You will collaborate with Controller, Finance, Development, Construction, and leadership while helping optimize NetSuite project accounting, dashboards, and

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial real estate development, construction, infrastructure, or capital project accounting experience.
• Experience with project accounting, CIP, fixed assets, and capitalization.
• CPA or active pursuit of CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting records for multiple active development and construction projects.
• Record and review project costs in accordance with U.S. GAAP and capitalization policies.
• Maintain detailed schedules for land, hard costs, soft costs, capital expenditures, and CIP.
• Review project invoices for accurate coding, capitalization, and cost allocation.
• Account for construction loan draws, advances, interest, and capitalized interest.
• Maintain and reconcile CIP balances and coordinate construction draw activity.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting packages for development entities.
• Perform budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analysis.
• Complete month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement analysis.
• Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and transfers from CIP when projects are placed into service.
• Partner with Development, Construction, Accounts Payable, Finance, and Procurement on project costs and reporting.
• Support the implementation and optimization of NetSuite project accounting, reporting dashboards, and workflows.
• Help establish scalable accounting procedures, financial controls, and audit-ready documentation.
