Job summary

Neal Communities in Sarasota, FL is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support the financial success of land development projects through strategic financial management, reporting, and analysis.

You will oversee job cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and construction draw processes, collaborating with project teams, lenders, and external partners to provide accurate insights and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned land development projects, overseeing all financial activity, ensuring alignment with company goals, and reporting standards
• Manage and maintain comprehensive job cost records
• Prepare, analyze, and interpret monthly financial statements for land projects and related entities, providing variance analysis and actionable insights to management
• Lead preparation and processing of construction draw requests; coordinate with lenders, joint venture partners, and community development districts (CDDs) to ensure accuracy and timeliness
• As assigned, prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Review and authorize purchase orders and contract setups, validating alignment with project budgets, reimbursement structures, and government or district requirements
• Collaborate with land managers and project leadership to develop, monitor, and update project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow schedules
• Prepare detailed supporting documentation for annual audits and serve as the point of contact for external auditors on land-related matters
• Provide oversight for journal entries, check requests, deposits, and other financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established procedures
• Identify process improvement opportunities within land accounting operations and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency
