Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking a Construction Project Accountant to manage the accounting lifecycle for multiple construction projects, set up jobs with proper coding, budgets, and contract documentation.

The role involves reviewing owner contracts for billing terms, preparing billings and pay applications, maintaining SOVs and WIP, and partnering with Project Managers to optimize profitability across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred, not required.
• 3+ years of construction project accounting in commercial construction.
• Experience with lien waivers, pay applications, SOVs, and WIP schedules.
• Experience supporting multiple project managers simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete accounting lifecycle for multiple construction projects.
• Set up new jobs with proper coding, budgets, and contract documentation.
• Review owner contracts for billing terms, retainage, change orders, and compliance.
• Prepare, review, and submit owner billings (progress, T&M, cost plus, % complete).
• Prepare and manage pay applications per contract requirements.
• Maintain SOVs and WIP schedules throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor budgets, perform job costing analyses, and identify variances.
• Review costs, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders for accuracy.
• Collaborate with PMs to monitor financial performance and profitability.

Project Accountant Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete accounting lifecycle for multiple construction projects.
• Set up new jobs within the accounting system, ensuring proper coding, budgets, and contract documentation.
• The construction project accountant will review owner contracts for billing requirements, retainage, change order language, payment terms, and compliance obligations.
• Prepare, review, and submit owner billings including:
  • Progress Billings
  • Time & Materials (T&M)
  • Cost Plus
  • Percentage of Completion
• Prepare and manage pay applications in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Prepare, review, and maintain Schedules of Values (SOVs) throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, supporting month-end financial reporting and project forecasting.
• Monitor project budgets and perform detailed job costing analysis to identify cost variances and profitability trends.
• Review project costs, committed costs, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders for accuracy.
• Work closely with Project Managers to monitor project financial performance, forecast costs, and maximize profitability.

Project Accountant Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, NOT required
• 3+ years of Construction Project Accounting experience within commercial construction or a related industry.
• Demonstrated experience with: Lien Waivers , Pay Applications , Schedules of Values (SOVs), Work-in-Progress (WIP) Schedules, Job Costing , Job Setup, Complex Contract Review
• Experience supporting multiple Project Managers simultaneously.
