Job summary

Benchmark Search is partnering with an industrial manufacturing client to recruit a Senior Project Accountant responsible for overseeing the financial performance of large, complex projects. You will own project accounting from job setup through final billing and collaborate closely with project managers, operations, and accounting leadership.

You will drive accurate job costing, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting, with a direct impact on project profitability and cash flow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of accounting experience.
• Experience with project, construction, or percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, retainage, and revenue recognition.
• Experience analyzing project margins and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Previous experience reviewing or mentoring junior staff.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage job costing, project budgets, committed costs, and labor activity.
• Prepare progress billings, final invoices, and retainage schedules.
• Complete percentage-of-completion and revenue recognition calculations.
• Monitor project margins, cost-to-complete estimates, and profitability.
• Prepare WIP, backlog, and over/underbilling reports.
• Handle project accruals, deferrals, reclasses, and adjusting entries.
• Partner with project managers to resolve billing, cost, and budget issues.
• Review and support the work of junior project accounting staff.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and audit support.
