Job summary

Varmoda is seeking a senior Programmer Analyst 6 to lead enterprise build, configuration, release, and version-management processes. The role focuses on implementing build automation and CI/CD capabilities supporting Bridges and MiSACWIS deployment.

The ideal candidate will oversee all release operations, administer Azure DevOps environments, optimize pipelines, and guide development teams in build automation and source-control practices. On-site in Lansing is required two days per week.

Qualifications

Varmoda is seeking a senior Programmer Analyst 6 to manage and enhance enterprise application build, configuration, release, and version-management processes. This role will implement build automation and CI/CD capabilities supporting testing and deployment activities for the Bridges and MiSACWIS applications.

The selected specialist will oversee all phases of application build and release operations, administer Azure DevOps environments, optimize build pipelines, and guide development teams using build automation, configuration management, and source-control platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage source-code control, including standards enforcement, baselining, branching, versioning, auditing, and release tracking.
• Design, script, implement, and maintain automated build and release workflows.
• Administer application build processes across testing and higher environments.
• Deploy new releases of application build, configuration-management, and version-management software.
• Manage CI/CD processes supporting reliable application testing and deployment.
• Monitor and optimize build pipelines to reduce execution time, improve reliability, and increase developer productivity.
• Investigate build and deployment failures and perform detailed root-cause analysis.
• Implement preventive measures and long-term corrective actions for recurring pipeline issues.
• Serve as the technical expert for systems using build automation, configuration-management, and version-management products.
• Provide technical guidance to development teams regarding build administration, release management, and project execution.
• Evaluate and recommend tools and products supporting configuration, build, and version-management processes.
• Serve as the technical liaison when coordinating with vendors and their engineering teams.
• Perform build and deployment activities across multiple Bridges environments.
• Modify build and deployment tasks, variables, and configurations to support application progression through established environments.
• Administer Azure DevOps for MiSACWIS builds and deployments.
• Create and manage branches for development stages within release and sandbox environments.
• Evaluate Azure DevOps and build-process issues to determine whether they can be resolved internally or require external support.
• Create and maintain process documentation for Bridges and MiSACWIS build and deployment procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Ten or more years of experience with build automation, auditing, software configuration, and version-management administration.
• Ten or more years of experience evaluating and recommending application software products associated with build, configuration, and version-management processes.
• Ten or more years of experience deploying application build, configuration-management, and version-management software releases.
• Ten or more years of experience guiding software-development teams in the use and administration of build automation, configuration-management, and version-control tools.
• Extensive experience designing and maintaining automated build and deployment processes.
• Strong experience with configuration-management technologies such as: ClearCase ClearQuest Git Bitbucket Bamboo Jenkins Azure DevOps
• Hands-on experience with build automation tools such as: Azure DevOps Pipelines Bamboo Jenkins Apache Ant
• Experience with issue and work-tracking platforms, including Jira and Azure DevOps Boards.
• Scripting experience with one or more of the following: Python Perl Shell scripting
• Experience troubleshooting complex build, deployment, access, server, and pipeline issues.
• Ability to document technical processes and communicate recommendations to development teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Ability to work onsite in Lansing every Monday and Tuesday without modification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous State of Michigan project experience.
• Experience enhancing automated build processes for Bridges.
• Experience enhancing automated build processes for MiSACWIS.
• Experience administering Azure DevOps branches, releases, boards, and deployment pipelines.
• Experience managing build processes across development, sandbox, release, testing, and higher environments.
• Experience supporting large-scale government or public-sector applications.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, release governance, source-code management, and environment promotion practices.

• Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
• Azure DevOps or GitHub-related certification
• ITIL Foundation certification
