Job summary

Telligen is seeking a Senior Programmer Analyst to own end-to-end systems from concept to deployment. You will mentor developers, work within a Scrum team, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

The role requires a 4-year CS degree, 3–5 years of experience, and in-office presence in West Des Moines three days a week. You will be responsible for leading analysis, system design, coding, code reviews, and automation initiatives while staying

  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent training and hands-on experience
  • 3–5 years of programming and/or software development experience
  • Experience working with clients or end users in an Agile environment
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages; comfortable with different tech stacks
  • Experience with Java and JavaScript; required for the role
  • Experience with relational database design, modeling, and administration
  • Mentoring or leading junior developers
  • Ability to be in office, in West Des Moines, 3 days per week

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis and system design with Product Owner input
  • Design, code, and review new applications, reports, and components
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, support staff, and end users to validate solutions
  • Mentor and support other programming staff
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes
  • Apply data modeling principles to troubleshoot persistence performance and build the data model

Job description

As a Senior Programmer Analyst, you will thrive on solving complex problems and building software that matters. This isn't about cranking out code in isolation — you'll be working as part of a Scrum team to understand user needs, design elegant solutions to real-world challenges, and mentor other developers as they tackle tough technical problems. You will own entire systems from concept to deployment, raise the technical bar across the team, and serve as a go-to resource for support staff and fellow engineers.

The individual in this role is expected to work at least 3 days per week in our West Des Moinesoffice.

What you'll do:
Lead Analysis and System Design
  • Perform deep-dive needs analysis withProduct Ownerstotruly understandthe problemsyou'resolving
  • Research, plan, design, and develop substantial components of larger, complex systems
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with client goals
Build, Code, and Collaborate
  • Design and code newapplications,reports, and software components according to department and company standards
  • Partner with AI to write clean, testable code and own the testing of everything you build ormodify;treat quality as your personal responsibility, not just something you hand off
  • Conduct thorough code reviews that enforce best practices and elevate code quality across the team; provide constructive feedback that helps developers grow their skills
  • Collaborate closely withProduct Owners, support staff,and end users tovalidatethat your solutions hit the mark,communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Mentor andassistother programming staff in analyzing and resolving complex technical issues
  • Identifyand implement opportunities to automate repetitive processes
  • Be familiar with and apply data modeling principles to troubleshoot persistence performance issues and build out the data model for the application
Stay Ahead of the Curve
  • Keep up with industry trends and emerging technologies,including AI tools and how they can enhance developer productivity
  • Research and prototype new tools and approaches that could improve how we work, treating AI as an enabler
  • Make well-informed recommendations for technology adoption and system improvements
  • Serve as a technical resource and expert to clients and less experienced team members
Mentor and Lead
  • Participate inandlead portions of planning, research, design, and evaluation efforts for software initiatives
  • Participate in hackathons and innovation initiatives to explore creative solutions to complex problems
  • Act as a resource expert to both staff and management
  • Provide technical direction and hands‑on guidance to less experienced developers
  • Help elevate the skills and standards of the entire development team
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or a related field— or equivalent training and hands‑on experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in programming and/or software development—you'vebuilt real systems and solved real problems
  • Experience working directly with clients or end users in an Agile environment
  • Proficiencyin multiple programming languages—you'recomfortable working in different tech stacks
  • Experience with Java andJavaScript— this isrequiredfor the role
  • Experience with relational database design, modeling, and administration
  • A track recordof mentoring or leading junior developers
  • Ability to be in office, in our West Des Moines location, 3 days per week
