Job summary

The IAM National Benefit Funds Office seeks an experienced Senior Programmer Analyst to join the IT Department. You will support three funds and help implement a new benefit administration system, integrating new technologies.

The role requires strong SQL expertise, data modeling, BI, ETL, and web app development with VB.NET/ASP.NET. Collaboration across teams and mentoring of junior staff are essential.

Qualifications

  • Extensive SQL development and stored code with DB administration experience.
  • Experience in Agile/SCRUM development environments.
  • Proficiency in data modeling and relational DB concepts.
  • Proficiency with BI/ETL tools and reporting.

  • Perform data migration, ETL, and reporting tasks.

Job description

Location: IAM National Benefit Funds Office, Washington, DC

The IAM National Benefit Funds Office is seeking an experienced Senior Programmer Analyst to join our IT Department supporting all three funds – IAM National Pension Fund, IAM National 401(K) Fund, and National IAM Benefit Trust Fund. We’re implementing a new benefit administration system and integrating new technologies.

The desired candidate will be a self-starter, have an excellent work ethic, and exercise sound judgment. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas and issues clearly and concisely with all levels within and outside the organization. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to plan & coordinate efforts, prioritize, adhere to deadlines, and follow-up through completion are essential.

  • Analyze user specifications and requirements. Capture report/program requirements from users and work towards solutions with critical thinking and minimal supervision, becoming a SME.
  • Report development and automation using complex SQL with performance tuning in various databases like Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, UniData.
  • Apply relational database design concepts and effective file/table access methods, considering performance, integrity, and scalability.
  • Perform annual regulatory and compliance projects like Actuarial and Tax Reporting.
  • Develop and debug stored procedures, triggers, packages, and functions.
  • Extract data, perform data migration, job queues, normalization techniques, and entity relationship modeling.
  • Database Administration - Tune, monitor, backup/restore, and metadata import/export.
  • Support building new applications and upgrading/patching existing ones through the use of automation tools.
  • Web application development using VB .NET/ASP.NET. Develop and modify web-based programs following SDLC practices and procedures.
  • Scripting and automation using VBScript, Macros,Unix, PowerShell, and DB Jobs/Task scheduler.
  • Business Intelligence and Analytics using tools like SSRS, OBIEE, Power BI, SharePoint, Python, etc. Supports secure access, usability, and versioning of reports
  • Testing and debugging of new and existing applications.
  • Training/Work Coordination & Team Support. Mentor junior programmer analysts.
  • Document all development/reporting processes, validate outputs for accuracy, and maintain organized technical documentation and knowledge artifacts.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal/written communication, sound judgment, organization, and follow-through. Meet deadlines and support stakeholders effectively.

Qualifications and Preferred Attributes

  • 10+ years in developing SQL and stored code along with database administration.
  • Experience in the Agile/SCRUM environment.
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling and RDBMS.
  • Experience in BI and ETL tools.
  • Experience in .NET, Python, VBScript, Macros, Unix, PowerShell.
  • Experience with code repositories like Team Foundation Server and Subversion.
  • Experience in Batch Scripting and job scheduling.
  • Experience in the Benefit Administration industry is a major plus, but not required.

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree (BA/BS) from an accredited university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a computer-related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical certifications and/or completion of technical courses are a plus.
