Job summary

The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Programmer/Analyst to design, develop, implement, and support enterprise applications critical to academic and administrative operations. You will provide technical leadership across software development, integration, database programming, and system administration.

Qualifications

Job Description

The Senior Programmer/Analyst designs, develops, implements, and supports enterprise applications that are critical to the College's academic and administrative operations. Working collaboratively with technical staff, vendors, and campus stakeholders, the incumbent leads projects through the full software development lifecycle and supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance institutional technology services.

Essential Functions
Enterprise Application Development
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain enterprise software applications, APIs, web services, ETL processes, and system integrations.
  • Develop scalable applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and database technologies.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, and database objects supporting enterprise applications.
  • Deliver secure, well-tested, maintainable code following established development standards and best practices.
  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
Enterprise Systems Administration & Support
  • Administer, configure, monitor, and maintain enterprise applications and related infrastructure.
  • Support production, development, and test environments while ensuring system reliability, performance, and availability.
  • Diagnose and resolve application, database, interface, and integration issues.
  • Coordinate software upgrades, migrations, patches, releases, and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in on-call support and respond to critical system outages when required.
Project Leadership & Technical Consultation
  • Lead or participate in technology projects supporting institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to evaluate business needs and recommend technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout project planning, implementation, testing, and production deployment.
  • Coordinate activities with vendors, consultants, and cross-functional technology teams.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, automation initiatives, and continuous process improvements.
System Performance & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor application performance and implement improvements that enhance reliability, security, scalability, and user experience.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to enterprise systems and development practices.
  • Develop and improve operational standards, procedures, documentation, and coding practices.
  • Identify opportunities to automate business processes and improve operational efficiency.
Customer & Technical Support
  • Provide advanced technical support for enterprise applications and related technologies.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with Help Desk staff and other IT teams to resolve escalated issues.
  • Communicate system status, project updates, and technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, application specifications, operational procedures, and user guides.
  • Maintain source code repositories and technical documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Document system configurations, workflows, troubleshooting procedures, and implementation processes.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer across the Enterprise Application Services team.
Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Build productive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and technology partners.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members as appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of enterprise application technologies, security practices, and higher education technology trends.
  • Participate in professional development activities to support continuous learning.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in enterprise application development, systems analysis, or software engineering.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications using modern programming languages and web technologies.
  • Experience working with relational databases, preferably Oracle, including SQL and PL/SQL development.
  • Experience developing APIs, system integrations, ETL processes, and web services.
  • Experience supporting applications in Linux/UNIX and Windows Server environments.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting higher education enterprise systems.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP.
  • Experience with Evisions ARGOS reporting.
  • Experience with React, Node.js, JavaScript, RESTful APIs, Git, HTML5, CSS, XML, and related web technologies.
  • Experience with IIS, Tomcat, Active Directory, LDAP, SSO technologies (CAS, SAML, Shibboleth, WSO2), and certificate management.
  • Experience with cloud-based enterprise applications and integrations.

Additional Information

Please note all offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the background check process.

Salary

$99,777.63 - $139,971.06 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $99,777.63 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 96, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
