Job summary

The Andrew Carnegie Foundation seeks a Program Officer to grow the National Program by identifying and developing higher education funding opportunities. You will manage a portfolio of grants, evaluate proposals, and help shape strategy through research and collaboration with researchers, funders, and policymakers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, political science, public policy, or a related field preferred.
• Strong research background and knowledge of higher education reform.
• Excellent writing, relationship building, and public speaking skills.
• Ability to translate data into sharp recommendations and work with AI tools.
• Willingness to travel and work onsite.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop funding opportunities in higher education for the National Program.
• Monitor trends and research to inform program strategy and grantmaking.
• Assess proposals, budgets, and workplans; present funding recommendations.
• Represent the portfolio externally; speak at events and organize meetings.
• Coordinate across education and democracy work, including AI's role.
• Provide guidance to colleagues and support program improvement.
