Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. seeks a Senior Program Manager for the Fire Detection NPI Program Management Office in Westford, MA. Hybrid work consists of three days onsite and two days remote per week.

The role requires leading complex software/hardware projects, managing budgets and schedules, and elevating PMO practices to improve execution and business outcomes. Relocation packages are available for commuting distance or relocation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience leading electronic product development and NPI programs in manufacturing.
  • Experience leading large-scale, cross-functional programs with budgets, forecasts, resources, risks, and portfolio reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile and traditional PM methodologies; proficient in MS Project and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple concurrent NPI programs through full product lifecycle.
  • Drive alignment across global cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, Training).
  • Develop and maintain integrated program plans (schedules, budgets, resources, milestones, risks).

  • Lead Value Analysis / Value Engineering to improve cost competitiveness and product value.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve program risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Communicate status, metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Advance PMO effectiveness through mentoring and process improvements.

What You Will Do

Johnson Controls is seeking a results-driven Senior Program Manager to join our Fire Detection New Product Introduction (NPI) Program Management Office. This exciting opportunity is based in Westford, MA, offering a hybrid work environment with three days onsite and two days remote each week. This role is ideal for a proven leader who has successfully delivered complex software and hardware products while elevating program management practices, execution rigor, and organizational capability.


This position is based onsite in Westford, MA. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.


How You Will Do It


  • Lead multiple concurrent NPI programs through the full product lifecycle, balancing scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk while ensuring compliance with Johnson Controls' Product Development Process.

  • Drive alignment and execution across global cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Quality, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Training.

  • Develop and maintain integrated program plans, including schedules, budgets, resource plans, milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies.

  • Manage project and departmental budgets, including planning, forecasting, tracking, and reporting to ensure alignment with business objectives and financial commitments.

  • Lead Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to improve cost competitiveness, optimize designs, and maximize product value.

  • Proactively identify, escal, and resolve program risks, issues, and dependencies.

  • Communicate program status, key metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Advance PMO effectiveness through mentoring, best-practice adoption, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance execution predictability and business outcomes.


What We Look For

Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 10+ years of experience leading electronic product development and NPI programs within a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated success delivering complex software and hardware products.

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale, cross-functional programs in global organizations, including management of budgets, forecasts, resource plans, risks, and portfolio reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile and traditional project management methodologies, with proficiency in Microsoft Project and Excel and the ability to drive execution through influence, collaboration, and effective stakeholder management.

  • Demonstrated track record of elevating program management maturity through mentoring, process improvement, best-practice implementation, and leadership that enables organizational growth and stronger business outcomes.


Preferred


  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

  • Proficiency in Visio, Jira, Confluence, and Power BI.

  • Experience within the fire protection, life safety, or highly regulated industries.


SALARY RANGE: $120,000 - $170,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
