Qualifications

• Must hold a Master’s degree and be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in administration and supervision.
• Experience leading secondary school programs with a strong record of improving student outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional practices, and test data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, communication, implementation and evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that drives student academic success.
• Foster an academically rigorous, safe school climate for all stakeholders.
• Manage human resources including selection, induction, evaluation and retention of staff.
• Oversee school organization, operation, and use of resources.
• Collaborate with leadership teams across Newport News High Schools.
• Engage in continuous professional development and uphold professional standards.
• Provide leadership that yields measurable student progress based on established standards.
• Implement state and local testing programs.
• Design master schedules and enroll students appropriately into programs.
• Create innovative programming to address non-traditional program needs.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
