Job summary

Shriners Children’s is seeking a Senior Professional Coder with 7+ years of complex surgery coding experience across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role requires expertise in ICD-10, CPT coding, HCPCS, modifiers, and CCIs, with pediatric and orthopedic coding background a plus.

The candidate will mentor staff, educate teams, and ensure compliant, accurate coding across hospital, clinic, and ASC locations.

Qualifications

• 7 years of coding experience in inpatient/outpatient professional surgery.
• Experience with Surgery Coding guidelines, E/M Coding Guidelines, CPT Coding, ICD-10, Modifiers, HCPCS and CCI edits.
• Pediatric, orthopedic and/or injury coding experience.
• Experience with education and presentations.
• Functional knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Functional knowledge of professional coding practice standards.
• Functional knowledge of MS Office.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• CCS-P (AHIMA) or CPC (AAPC) certification.

Responsibilities

• Assign and sequence ICD-10; CPT-4; HCPCS and modifiers for services rendered.
• Reconcile coding edits and discrepancies prior to final coding.
• Maintain coding quality of 95%+ while meeting productivity requirements.
• Follow coding guidelines and regulatory requirements for compliance.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and communicate improvements to leadership.
• Act as a mentor to junior coders and provide education.
• Serve as liaison to physicians and clinical staff on coding issues.
• Provide system and workflow training to new coders and Revenue Cycle teams.
• Support Revenue Cycle with coding questions and back up for lead coder.

Then this position may be for you!The Senior Professional Coder performs at an advanced level medical coding position and serves as an expert utilizing ICD-10 and CPT4 classification system coding to all diagnoses, treatments and procedures in all types of Hospital, Clinic and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) locations at stated minimum performance levels.
