Whatnot is seeking a Senior Production Engineer to embed with cross-functional teams and improve reliability for live video commerce. You will hunt anomalies, drive fixes, and optimize performance at scale, working across payments, search, and security areas.

The role emphasizes collaboration, rapid incident response, and a strong background in distributed systems and cloud-native environments. We value flexibility to work from home or at hubs, with expectations to be within commuting distance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years building and debugging production services at scale.
• Strong systems and distributed systems fundamentals: failure modes, saturation, queueing behavior, cascading failure, and how Linux, networking, and storage behave under load.
• Fluency across languages and technologies, and comfort in cloud-native environments such as AWS or GCP with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
• Bonus: high-traffic, real-time, event-driven, or live streaming systems.

Responsabilités

• Go deep with the embed team to raise reliability, performance, and scalability, and write code to improve them.
• Hunt anomalies across traffic, latency, error, and cost signals and trace root causes across services.
• Connect operational signals to business impact and identify which degradations matter and for which cohorts.
• Work where risk concentrates: payments, live video, search, bidding path, and security.
• Eliminate scale bottlenecks in production and prevent recurring issues.
• Prepare for peak events with capacity modeling, load testing, and failure drills.
• Improve observability so anomalies are found quickly.
• Put AI to work on operations for anomaly detection and on-call assistance.
• Share on-call with the embed team and act as escalation point for incidents.
• Lead incident response for complex cross-team failures and drive systemic fixes.
